I need an iron intervention

I've been wanting to get my ISI's out of my bag for awhile now but I just can't decide on a new set. I've always gamed Ping irons and at one point I had a set of i5's tried them for about 5 rounds and couldn't hit them straight as my ISI's so I got rid of them, but now I'm thinking about trying to pick up another set of i5's and try them again....

I have been thinking about sending my ISI's into ping for a refinish, but at the same time I'm thinking why throw $200 at a 15 year old set of irons....

what are some arguments for keeping the irons, and what are some arguments for bagging new ones??

Do both. If you settle for just one set of irons you won't fit in very well around here......

There are a lot of golfers playing older Ping irons. I still see Eye2's and i3's in play..

You would probably pick up some distance with a newer set and maybe some
forgiveness depending on what you would pick.

The i5's are still very popular. The i10's are less forgiving and more difficult to hit.
The i15's get good reviews. All the G series are easy to hit and very forgiving.
I really like the S58's. They can be had for $2-3 hundred on the bay.

Just my opinion, of course, but I would go with a newer set and take advantage
of the newer tech. I've been longingly eyeing the S56's lately and may pull the
trigger soon.

Any iron you pick will have an adjustment period. Good luck in your search!

I don't know if I would be so quick to ditch the ISI's. Sure, they were and are a fugly looking iron, but they work. That is one set that I always hit extremely well and wish I had bought back in the day. I saw a nice barely used set of ISI K black dots on the MI Detroit/Ann Arbor area Craig's List for around $300. If I had the coin right now I would go grab that set. And no, they are not mine.<br><br>One thing you could do, like you mentioned, is to send them back to ping and have the lofts and lies checked and maybe adjusted a degree or two stronger if distance is a concern. Or go all out and have them throw in a new set of shafts and grips. Turnaround time should be around what, a week to ten days at most? <br>
