pics inside, what a GREAT golf course!

As a Donald Ross disciple, I have been wanting to play Shennecossett Golf Course for quite sometime. Well, I played it this past week.....This golf course is not long, somewhat tricky, not in overall superb shape, great prices and a quirky (fun) layout as well. I could play here everyday and be happy! The greens played conistent and of a medium speed. The second hole is a downhill par 4 that plays "over a set of railroad tracks". You have to drive across an adjacent street on 2 holes (#1 and #10) so watch out for oncoming traffic! The uphill, 200 yard par three #4 is probably about the MOST DIFFUCLT par 3 hole you will ever face. The green is rounded and crowned like you cannot believe. I aimed about 15 yards SHORT of this green on purpose. #15, #16 and #17 are close to the Thames River within view of Long Island across the sound. These holes ARE NOT Donald Ross and were added as a replacement for a land swap with Pfizer. These holes appear to enhance the course rather than detract from it.....Be sure and check the town of Groton's website for discount coupons....Here are some pics...

Great review and pics once again. I've played here 5 times and absolutely love the course. The 4th hole is the hardest par 3 I've ever played. I parred it the first time I played there and thought jeez, what's so hard about it? Well since then I'm +6 on that hole alone . The course is usually always in great shape too. The 16th hole is one of my favorites of all time. The tees are set back in the marsh, and for your approach to the green you get a great view of the Thames/Long Island Sound. Shenney is a great course and it's definetely worth playing!

Also one of my favorites, ross is genius, its also open through most of the winter.

very fun to play, very original and the easiest walking course ever. really a great mix of holes and in solid shape. when i played there the greens were solid, and the fairways very nice. the 3 new holes are ok, i meen you have a great view but... really fun and ends with an easy one, short par 5
