Taylormade R5 DUAL from Costco - Bombs away!

Recommended Posts

I bought a Taylormade r5 Dual Neutral with an Aldila NV shaft from Costco, and it just BLASTS the ball.

Very forgiving too. I have missed much fewer fairways since I got this club, and I'm able to go over 300 without swinging very hard. The rest of my clubs are still the K-Mart starter set type. (Nitro Blasters)

I'm anxious to replace these with some quality mid handicapper cavity backs though, because if the advantage is similar to the Driver, I should pick up even more strokes! I never knew equipment could make such a difference. I guess three years of knocking around starter clubs is enough!

Now I'll be a golf equipment junkie like so many of the other golfwrxers, and follow this subforum more closely.

That is the approach I took aas well. started with a 14 piece set, and swapped out clubs. First to go wa the Driver. Got a Nike 350 from 'Price Club.' GREAT MOVE. Then the putter......and the fariway woods, added wedges....and finally got new irons.

That really is a great way to do it! Glad you like your new driver!!!!

300 more yards with a hybrid??? Wow no even superman can do that! I wish I could reach 200 yards with my rescue dual 3 (19* loft)

Where are you reading this hybrid nonsense? r5 dual is a driver ....read next time

Sorry, my mistake.. I confused it with R7 rescue dual...

you mean just "RESCUE DUAL"

Yes! too many TM items in my brain... and all with the same words mixed up!!!

Here is were the confusion came out with the R5 dual and the R5xl mid (which is a hybrid) http://www.taylormadegolf.com/japan/produc...5xl/r5xl_fw.asp

And I have heard about the R7 rescue dual being under design concept in Japan. I will let you know more when I get more confirmations.

Yes, I agree, this approach has worked out well for me. I decided to go through 2 sets of starter sets, one a little more expensive than the the first. However, I had a problem with the heads snapping off of the irons. When the Driver head shattered, I decided to upgrade to a more premium club, and boy was that the right move. I don't know how the Taylormade R5 head and the Aldila NV shaft regular flex rank on the scale, but it feels and strikes like a Tour quality club when compared to that Nitro Driver that broke. I'm playing 18 holes of match and stroke (we keep both) with my buddy tomorrow. I'll see how many fairways I can hold with this thing.

Any suggestions on some quality mid handicapper iron sets? I know next to nothing about equipment, but am eager to learn.

FYI - I've seen TM R7 drivers at Marshall's of all places (up here in MA) - in 9, 9.5, 10 & 10.5 degree, marked down to $240 (from $299). There have been a few Callaway FT-3s too... I've been a Marshall's shopper for years and this is the first time I've seen any major brand clubs at their stores.

I've seen the same thing at several Marshalls here in the Northern Virginia / DC area. I suspect several of the local Sports Authority stores that have undergone renovation and major inventory turnover in just a few short weeks have sold some of this excess stuff to Marshalls stores within the same shopping complex. Apparel as well, not just clubs.

While in Napa, CA recently, I also saw a Target carrying Cleveland Launcher drivers and TM Rescue Mid hybrids.

Odd how this stuff occasionally happens.

You know, my mother and grandmother are going to get very, very suspicious of me when I actually volunteer to join them on a Marhsalls afternoon death march ;) :idhitit:
