Bandon Dunes accomodation recommendations

Going to Bandon in early July with 2 buddies. I booked 2 of us in a Golf Double in The Inn for $360 a night total. Is it worth upgrading to the Chrome Lake Loft for $600 per night?? We will then have our own rooms and bathrooms but I doubt we will be in the room that much so may not be worth the extra expense. Anyone stayed in these rooms and can chime in??

Chrome Lake rooms are fairly nice, but it really depends on what you'll be doing on your trip. My buddies and I go in the winter and get these rooms, but that is because we like to hang out in our rooms and play cards/watch movies instead of hang out in the pub every night. That said we go about once a year and it's way cheaper. We are a little spoiled that it's not a far drive for us, but the 8 months of rain makes up for it.... :russian_roulette:

But if you are going for a once in a lifetime/very rare trip, get the smaller and cheaper room. Play 36 a day, or play Shorty's a couple times if it is open. Then hang out on the decks or in the pub until bed time and then just sleep in your rooms. You'll be too tired to care much about the room size! :friends:

I am not a country club golfer. OK? cost per night does mean something to me. If you are asking if the extra cost for Chrome Lake Loft is worth it, it isn't. You will get a good place to stay, and a good experience, at either, marginally better from the Chrome Lake Loft -- maybe. Maybe not. You are getting a good deal given the season and the venue. Enjoy.

ps: I have played at Bandon Dunes several times. The lodging is good regardless of where. The golf is fantastic regardless. Cheaper room does not equate to bad experience. Have fun. Go to room and crash. Me, I did not really notice the "quality" of the room other than it was not buggy, was fairly convenient, was clean. I would not even be averse to saying stay up the coast a bit if money is an object. I have done that too.

We stayed in the Lily Pond this past April. The doubles at the Lily Pond were larger than the Inn. But the Inn was closer to the Lodge and McKee's Pub.

I've stayed at the Inn, Chrome Lake, Lilly Pond, the Grove Cottages and in town at the Bandon Inn. If you want to be on course and you don't mind sharing a room/bathroom then there really isn't much of a difference. Stumbling distance from the bars means nothing the since the shuttle will take you anywhere you want to go on campus no matter how drunk you are. If price doesn't matter to you then the Grove Cottages are really great. There's nothing quite like having your own bathroom and your own 42" plasma in your own bedroom to make you feel better about your game at the end of the day. If you're really budget conscious, an Oregon resident and not concerned with driving drunk from the course then the Bandon Inn in town is the way to go. In the winter you can split a room with your golf buddy for around $40 each. Combine that with $75 rounds (in winter for Or residents) and cheap in town eats and you can have the 2 night, 2 rounds, 2 breakfasts and dinner package for ~$300.

I've stayed at both, and both are great. You won't be disappointed. In July, I would stay at the Inn. The days are long and you will spend most of your time on the course. In the winter months Chrome is great. You have the extra space when the days are short and you spend a little more time in your room. You will love it either way.

One of the most fun days I had at Bandon was spent after I rolled into town at about 2:00 a.m. I slept in my Tahoe in the parking lot and then took a shower in the men's locker room downstairs in the morning. Played Pacific and Old Mac. Drove back to Eugene that night.

When I was down there last week I stayed in the Lodge for the first time. I wasn't very impressed. The rooms don't feel as comfortable (design wise, the actual bed and such is still nice). For instance the old TV cabinet blocked the view of the TV from bed, and the space was just jumbled, and the nice ocean/golf view was out the bathroom window, but if you left the blinds up people would be staring at you as you use the toilet.

I'd definitely recommend the Chrome Lake and Inn over staying in the Lodge, though not having to shuttle back and forth was nice, but they are so good with their shuttle service it's a minor quibble.

no kitchen. Honestly, you should eat all your meals at the resort restaurants. The food is fantastic and is reasonable priced, especially for the best golf resort in the world.

Stay at the Inn. You will only spend time in the room to sleep. At the Inn, they have free brewed coffee in the lobby, a very comfortable lounge with bar service and 2 large HDTVs with directv. Along with a great gas fireplace.

Keep your money to splurge on a nice bottle of wine at dinner.

Do you drink? We had a fire last week in C L cause they wanted to Bar b que....drunk! If your a drinkin kinda bunch then the Inn. (you can stagger back to your plush abode). If one of you leaves the Bunker semi sober then try the Grove accomidations.
