What irons do you think I should get?

I am a junior golfer who is looking for new irons. I have Ping S59's right now, but I am hitting them much too low. The longer irons I can hit solildy, but they come in soooo hot that's it's almost impossible to keep them on a firm green. I'm also dissapointed in the cast feel. I was really looking for a set like the Nike Pro Combo's, with the forgiving longer irons and shorter blade irons. I was also wondering if the Speed Steps are a good idea, even though I'm a low ball hitter.

 

Any suggestions/comments would be good.

I feel that I hit the ball well enough to play all the player's cavities or even some blades out there. Like I said, I'm just hitting it too low.

Yes, I was hoping for a set that would let me hit the ball high.

I tend to dig more than sweep.

Probably a 2. I can shape shots enough, but I don't know how much I need to at most of the courses I play

I play on a usually soft, long course.

 

Do you want instant and exact feedback from your irons?

 

Feedback is fairly important to me in the short irons, I don't really need to feel anything to see that my thinned 3 iron came up 10 yards short

I'm surprised no one else has responded... I think if you could find a deal on the Pro Combo Tours they would fit you pretty well. I love mine, great feel yet forgiving enough for a good swing in the longer clubs, and a mixture of both in the mid irons.

It would seem you have the game at a 4 to play most anything! I am a 6.7 and not even close to your age, just a wee bit older. I play with a CG4 tour and really like them great feel on the short irons and on the long ones I don't care I hit a hybrid. I get the ball to go up with no ballooning. I did switch to a regular shaft this year and did not notice an accuracy difference nor a change in distance, just that the ball went a little higher. Maybe this helps a bit.

Another possibility could be MP60s? I haven't played them but have hit them... sure feel good. Or maybe even a combo set of 32s/60s.

I'm a 5 hdcp and also a low-ball hitter. After three sets this year and demoing everything, I've realized that ball flight is more determined by the shaft than the head. Try Dynalite or TX-90 in your irons and you will see a difference. You are most likely playing a high-flex point shaft now.
