Laguna Beach - Where to golf?

Hey guys, I am making a trip with my family to Laguna Beach, California and my Dad, Brother and I are looking to get a few rounds in. Can anybody recommend some places close by? Thanks in advance!

How far are you looking to drive?

Good question, I would say up to an hour for a drive.

There are a ton of options. In the OC golf is very expensive.

Here is a short list of better courses. There are other options that cost less. Let me know if you want some less expensive options. Many people are going to recommend Monarch Beach because it will be convenient. I can't stand that course.

Make the trip to Torrey Pines, it's well worth it. Also, I enjoyed playing at Arroyo Trabuco. Very nice facilities and a challenging course. Well worth the price.

I dont get why people hate monarch so much. I paid $65 there and enjoyed myself a lot.

Highly recommend pelican north and south.

Was that the 5 hole rate at Monarch?

People hate it because of the cost. It's a nice place and a fun course. But not worth the price. If you can get out for a discount, different story...

I was able to get on at a weekday member rate.

If you're budgdet minded, try mile square (either course), Costa mesa country club (Los Lagos course), Anaheim hills, San clemente municipal. For $75-100 range there's talega, tijeras creek, arroyo trabuco, San Juan hills. Above $100 you have strawberry farms, oak creek, coyote hills, and my favorite which is tustin ranch.

I really appreciate the advice. I heard from my friends that Monarch is a great place to go. But I will definitely look into these.

I would say what we are definitely looking for is a longer course. All 3 of us like to swing out of our shoes off the tee, so the lengthy courses where we can hit driver a lot are the most fun.

Anyone know which of these courses plays longer?

In tht case dont play monarch. Im short and didnt need driver there on several holes.

You might just need to play the tips at one of the oc courses. I like arroyo trabuco, tustin ranch, oak creek and both pelican courses.

Cheap: San Clemente Municipal
Mid-range: Talega or Arroyo Trabuco
Pricey: Tustin Ranch

Don't go to Monarch or Pelican under any circumstances. Both are extremely overpriced and bank on the fact that a have a few ocean-view holes. If you really must play a premium course, go to Torrey Pines or even Industry Hills.

If you want long and are okay paying $150 go to Torrey.

Long for around $100 look at Black Gold and Arroyo.
