Best, Cheap Set while Joe K. blueprints

So, I'm about to have Joe blueprint my xtours with TC's. However, the fall is great golfing weather here in georgia and I have a couple golf trips planned. So, while these are getting Kwoked, I am looking for a good, cheep, players set, I would like to spend no more than 250-300 since I will only be using these for a couple weeks, but will probably keep them as a backup set as well if I like them... Any opinions? I've come up with Apex Pros or Apex Plus and Original LT's, any others?

Anyone remember the Precept Tour Premium forged cavities? Sweet set with great feel and forgiveness . . . you could probably fleabay a set for about $100 these days . . . that'd be hard to beat!

picked my precepts up for only 80 bucks shafted them with some 6.5's and it was the cheapest thing ever! And hands down the best set ever

You could probably have a good custom componant set built for close to that price. I'm thinking Golfsmith Tour Cavity 304 steel cast irons ($8 per head), DGS300 ($9 per) and your grip of choice. I played these for awhile and they felt very soft and performed great, they were a bit too demanding for my game when I wasn't playing well otherwise I would still own them. If you go the custom built route they'll be brand new and fit to your specs and it seems like that would be an optimal back-up or travel set to have without a huge investment. Maybe not the best option if you want your back-ups to be more forgiving than your gamers but probably pretty close to the X-tours in terms of playability if that suits you. If Joe's got your wedges the Tour Cavity matching wedges were very good also and cost the same as the iron heads.

I'd just buy a used set that suits your fancy and flip 'em when you get the Kwoked clubs. If you don't pay too much on Ebay, you can generally break even or close to it, especially on sought after clubs (Mizzy MP's, XTours, etc).

I don't know how much they have been going for lately, but I bet the 04 TM CB TP's are pretty cheap. Great irons- soft feel and satin finish.

There is a great thread on here that Joe Kwok did about blueprinting and what goes into it. I will try to find it but in the meantime you could search for it. Very informative.

I'd second the Hogans, either Apex Plus, or Apex Edge Pro.

They are underrated and can be had for cheap. The Apex shaft will perform very much like TC. They have that nice forged feel, and the price has pretty much bottomed out. You should be able to sell them for close to what you paid for them.

not overly forgiving, but enough to tell a difference between them and blades, but you will know when you misshit one

Joe did my Xtours with TC and I love them! Lots of good advice on a back up set of clubs already given but I just wanted to say the X tours with TC are the BOMB.

Just picked up a set of Apex Plus for $130, couldn't beat it. I was bidding on a set of TM 300's, but was "sniped" by someone running the "program" as I lost by one penny. I hate that program!! Would have had 300's for 150!! Arghhhh!!
