Lightest Stand Bag with at least a 4-way divider

I'm looking for the lightest stand bag on the market (current or previous models) that has at least a 4-way divider for clubs. I've seen a few good deals for the Taylor Made Micro-Lite for $60. Would that be a good investment? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The Callaway Hyperlite 4.0 is right at 4lbs with 6 full length dividers. About $110-$120 is the best price out there at present. Hyperlite 3.0 is about half a pound less. There is also a bag by Adidas that is under 4lbs but I don't know much about it.

Not sure I'd ever use the word "investment" to describe something that will likely wear out in a couple hundred rounds, though.

I have used the Microlite and its a super bag if you're going to walk to majority of your rounds. I didn't have any problems with clubs getting stuck when walking with the 4 way top divider and the 3 full length dividers. I only walk about 25% of my rounds so I'm actually going to sell the white microlite and get a Sun Mountain four5 I think.

Bag weight is all marketing. Clubs and whats in the bag make up the majority of the weight. Go to a store fill up two golf bag one that weighs 5 lbs one that weighs 4 lbs, you wont be able to tell the 1lb difference once full. I wouldn't base your choice on getting the lighest possible bag. I mean dont buy a staff bag, but 1 lb isnt going to matter.

The older Sun Mountain Swift X had a 4-way X-divider. You might try and find one of those on ebay. I had one and it was brilliant, but I have a rolly cart now.

oneunderdogey is correct, weight is all marketing. I find bag diameter to be more of a factor in carrying ease than weight, as a smaller diameter bag feels less bulky when carrying.

IMHO, the TM Micro Lite is a pretty darn good compromise for weight/size if you need a stand and want to carry 14 clubs. If you don't need a stand, you can manage 14 clubs in a Titleist Sunday bag. The ultimate in light weight carry.

I have a Sun Mountain Four5 Stand bag, which as the same states weighs 4.5 lbs. I generally walk, so this bag tends to seem a little heavy considering it has the 14 way divider top and lots of pockets etc. But I rarely keep anything in it:, sleeve of new balls, small bag of tees, 7-10 backup balls (sometimes less depending on the course), an extra glove, and maybe a water bottle. One of my buddies has one of the Sun Mountain Superlights (which supposedly weighs 3.5 lbs and has only like 6 way dividers but he carries twice the amount of stuff I do. He swears my bag is lighter than his (manufacturing wise) and I always insist that its just the stuff he carries.

 

Now one day for the sh*** and giggles we decided to switch bags after saturdays rounds and play sunday with eachothers bags but with all our own stuff inside.

 

There was a 1 lb difference manufacturing wise in our bags. He couldn't stand the weight of my bag with his stuff, and I found his bag with my stuff was really light and felt great.

 

In conclusion, I think you're better off finding a bag you like and actually putting your stuff in it to see how it feels rather than just find the lightest bag at the store or on the market. I mean I know thats tough, but you may find that your current bag feels better than a new one you buy.

 

Just my opinion, and once next season comes around I'm probably gonna invest in the SM Superlight.

 

 

Then again, its always good to have a father to dump your old bags on

FWIW the Sun Mountain "45" weighs well over five pounds and the "35" weighs nearly 4-1/2 pounds, empty. Since we were speaking of marketing vs.reality...

And just something else to remember, yes while the total weight difference between the two is negligible, when you have more pockets available (four5) you'll put more stuff in it, which in turn increases the weight.

You pack a Microlite and a Four5 with the exact same stuff, you probably can't tell a difference...

The Ping 4-Under has a four-way top, but there are essentially three holes inside the bag in terms of bag-length dividers.

A nice bag, however.

It's easy to say a pound here or a pound there doesn't matter, but over 18 holes in the heat and on hilly terrain it makes a difference on my 35 year old back and bones.

I'm still loving my Titleist Sta-Dry, which replaced an Ogio Ozone which replaced a Hoofer 2.
