Prince Edward Island Cottages?

My wife and I are going to take a week or ten day trip to PEI. We're retired, so we need to watch the budget.

 

Any experiences and/or suggestions for cottages to stay in would be much appreciated.

I have used this place twice over the last 6 years, reasonably priced, nothing fancy just clean and quiet. If you want to play golf they can make all the arrangements. North Rustico is located very close to the Cavendish area on the north side of the island. Contact name is Dwight Houston.

We are including Cape Breton, but more to visit Fort Louisbourg than for the golf, although we hope get in at least one round. Care to recommend an inexpensive place to stay a couple of nights that's not too far from Louisbourg?

PEI, on the other hand, is (hopefully) a full week of daily golf with sightseeing in the afternoons & evenings.

There’s a ton of places in Sydney that’s cheap and close to Louisbourg.

One thing about PEI is that right after the Labour Day weekend, most places drop their rates significantly. The weather is still fine in early/mid September, and the courses are less crowded. You mention you're retired, so that might be a good time. The only downside is that a certain number of restaurants, tourist attractions and so on shut down after the holiday (once on a mid-September trip to the Island, I even stopped at a gas station that turned out to be closed for the season!!), but most cottages are still open, and one can save a fair chunk of money, on accomodations and green fees both.

My brother and I always stay at [url="http://fairwayscottages.com/"]Fairways Cottages[/url] in Cavendish. Sandy Lowther owns the place - she's always treated us right. If you're not headed for Cavendish, or not just there, I'm less able to make a good recommendation. But this website [url="http://www.tourismpei.com/index.php3#"]Tourism PEI[/url] and this one [url="http://www.golfpei.ca/"]Golf PEI[/url] have proven very helpful to us in the past - nice thing about PEI is that it's small enough that one website can cover the whole place manageably to help you choose, and that you can see most of the province's regions in a 10 day trip.

Where are you playing? My favourites are Glasgow Hills, Anderson's Creek, and Crowbush. Liked Brudenell and Dundarave too. Never have played Green Gables. Supposed to be a very nice classic course, but was closed for renovation/restoration the last two times I was there (it was consecutive years).

You should check out Cabot Links while you are in that area. Only true links course in Canada.

I'll tell ya one thing, Lanes Cottages in Montague are a great spot. Ask for the Hunter or Amber House.
Good deals on the golf too if you're not afraid to try to VULCH.

I live in Moncton and travel to the Island for work just about every week and I wouldn't bother.

For half the money get a cottage on the NB side of the Northumberland straight and play golf here.

PEI small enough to camp out of one location? Any changes to recommendations? Curious when the season starts there?
