Maybe the team concept can help Tiger, but, Tiger's game is not there, Mentally Tiger is not there, you have to "want it" and I just don't see it in his eyes or body language. He is too comfortable... Let's see if his commitment to work hard and his next tournament can show some result before Fred should make up his mind to chose TW. This is not given, TW has to earn it....

This is what I find interesting...
Notice whenever any of the players who were around and witnessed Tiger during his real dominating years..whenever any of those players are asked about Tiger and his game or whatever, they always answer as if they believe he is still the best player in the world. As if hes just one tournament away from being right back to how he was before. Some of these younger guys, they dont seem to respond in quite the same way.

Thats what strikes me about this Stricker deal and with Freddie too. Recalling the decade of golf from Tiger that they personally witnessed and thinking that if he could just be 85% of what he was that would be good enough. Of course its not literally that way but in a sense it seems as if thats how a lot of these older players think. Its like they think that he was soooo much better than everyone else before, if he could just be almost as good as before then he would still be one of the top players.

I dont believe that these guys are actively thinking like this. It just seems to me like the thought of the old Tiger still lingers in their minds.
The older guys think that way because Tiger was soooo much better than anyone that teed it up. Look at his numbers, they are sick. They will tell you that they were playing for second place when he showed up. They will tell you that when he was putting well, he was unbeatable. They will also tell you that when he wasn't putting well, he could still win. He intimidated the wee wee out of every guy out there, except for Hal Sutton maybe. He retained the #1ranking until last October or November because he was so far ahead of everyone. Light years ahead. Older guys still talk about him that way because they still wake up in the middle of the night sweating.

Here's a huge part of the problem, and Scratch brought this up somewhat....
There are a lot of events Woods can play in between now and the Cup to end all this debate. He could have played last week, this week, he could play in European events, he has ample chance between now and then to prove he deserves to be there. Woods response, basically he doesn't care. After all he's playing in his friends scramble. That's his big event coming up, wow!

I also have to laugh, as even people here with name's like "tiger168" aren't exactly singing his praises. For those of you still thinking this is 2000, you really need to realize that it's been a long time since Woods was considered a good guy and everyone loved him. Now this doesn't mean you have to take your posters down or e bay your red Nike polos, but it does mean you have to realize that in this day and age people aren't just going to give him everything like they used to.

I'm surprised more of the Woods fans aren't demanding this from him. If he's serious and his game's there, prove it. If he needs more reps, play more. It's not that complicated.

Well I did. If he plays more and wins then yes I would have no problem with him playing. Right now him even breaking par would be amazing as he has only achieved this once in his last six rounds. Let me also say that this is of course predicated that these are real events and not scrambles with his friends. If he shows up at some club championship and gets a 4th place that's not enough.
That being said, it's hard to keep a kid off the team who just won a Major. It would be hard to keep Fowler off the team after his performance at the Ryder Cup. Woods needs to do something remarkable in the next few months, not just flop around in a few events and place somewhere in the top 30. Bradley has all but been begging Couples to put him on the team and is determined to try to PLAY his way on the team. What a crazy thought eh? To think that he could be left off so Eldrick can be on it is absurd.
Again, his popularity is plummeting fast. The sponsors have all but abandoned him, the rumor is Nike slashed his salary, he's not the same guy from 5 years ago. This would be a great time to look at the younger players and see this as a great way to put them over instead of an old broke down player with 6 injuries to his leg and his last performance in a big tournament resulting in him not even making the cut and probably setting a record for most sand traps hit in consecutive days.

Fred Couples is already in a tough spot, and John Deere Stricker's butting in is really not helping Fred's position as captain.
Steve Stricker is entitled to have an opinion. Couples is hardly in a tough spot and has no problem with anyone having an opinion. No mater what decision he makes, he will be fine with it. This is only a drama for people that want to make it one.

For all the guys that don't want Tiger on the team. If wins or contends before the event, would that change your opinion?
You mean if he earns it? Sure.
I believe at this point its impossible for Tiger to earn his way onto the team.

Yea..Not only does he need to play more, but he needs to play good. I believe he is going to play in possibly 4 events prior to the Presidents Cup, and I think he should play in at least that many. Hes announced that he will play in Notah Begays event, a tournament in Asia, and the one in Australia prior to the Presidents Cup. He has also said its possible he will play in a fall series event. So if he plays 4 events between now and the Presidents Cup on 11/14, well thats pretty good. Especially when you consider his situation with his kids. We dont know what his commitments are there as far as which weekends or time he has planned with his kids. I think if he was to play say 5 events in basically 2 1/2 months then that would be pushing it a bit.

Let's be very clear here.

Notah's exhibition is 8/31. The Fall Series events Tiger could play in would start 9/29. This Asian event isn't on his schedule, at least on his website.

Freddy makes his captain's picks on 9/26.
