Recommended courses around St. George for May 2012 trip?

I know there is lots of information/reviews on this forum and on the Internet about St. George golf, but thought I would throw this thread out there as well to try to get some more current information.

Planning on taking a buddies golf trip to St. George area in early May 2012. We like to keep the costs reasonable and mix in about 4-5 rounds at more expensive courses with 2-3 rounds at mid-range courses as long as they are decent. The courses we know we want to play are Coral Canyon (2 rounds) and Sand Hollow (2 rounds). The other choices we are thinking of are Kokopelli, Valderra Ledges, Sky Mountain and Sunbrook. Valderra Ledges is probably considered a more expensive course while the other 3 are mid-range.

How does Valderra Ledges compare to the other ones and would it be better to play the Ledges or one of Kokopelli, Sky Mountain, Sunbrook?

Out of Kokopelli, Sky Mountain and Sunbrook how would you rate them and if there was one of these that we wanted to play twice, which one should it be?

Based on their current conditions this year, what would be our best bang for the buck and which ones would you recommend?

Thinking of maybe buying the Uinta golf members card to shave some of the costs. Any thoughts on this or any other recommendations for saving on green fees (GolfNow etc)?

Any other thoughts or recommendations around golf in this area at this time of year?

Thanks a lot !

Sand hollow for sure, no brainer. The ledges, if it is in good shape is as good as any, they had some $$ problems last year but things seem to be better. Kokopelli is awesome better than either sky mountain or sunbrook. If your set on Saint George only here are my picks.
1. Sand Hollow
2. The Ledges
3. Kokopelli
4. Coral canyon
5. Green springs
6. Sky mountain
7. Sunbrook

If you go to mesquite you have plenty of awesome courses to pick. For a cheaper course you cannot beat Greensprings, usually in good shape and it can be a test from the back tees. You can for sure get in 36 a day so get tee times at the more expensive places in the afternoon after twilight.
One recommendation for kokopelli, it is out of the way, there is nothing out there yet, take some stuff to drink with you, also it is long play a tee down. Hole 7 is almost 500 yards up hill, par 4 the par 5's on the back are 600 from the blues, they say it can be stretched to 8000 yards depending on tee and hole locations.

Good luck

Actually the ledges is not by Zion national park, but by Snow Canyon state park. I'm not sure what you mean by "tricked up" the back nine wanders through the red rock and lava and makes for some interesting holes, but is no more "tricked up" than the back nine at sand hollow. I play the St. George area weekly and I would rank both sand hollow and the ledges way above coral canyon.

A couple people have mentioned Mesquite but nobody has mentioned specifically Wolf Creek.

I've played it a few times and it is AMAZING. It's on the Tiger Woods video games and the latest Golf Digest had it ranked as the 27th toughest golf course in North America. The views will blow your mind away. You'll be hitting tee shots from the top of cliffs that are 200 yards above the fairway. It is just unreal.

It's going to be on the higher end of the price spectrum but check out their website at http://www.golfwolfcreek.com/home. Just looking at those pictures will make you want to take the drive out there to tee it up.

Last I heard, from a former employee, the Ledges, or Valdera at the Ledges as it is now known, is again in some $$ trouble. I haven't been there to see for myself. This gentleman was a marshall out there and said that he shoed up to work one day and they just told all the marshalls to go home as they were no longer needed. He says that it is not in good shape and has really gone down hill. If you are still going in May I would check before you schedul a tee time there.
