26 Handicap, need help to break 90!

Any advice welcome.
Hi, I was looking for some advice on my current swing, have only been playing a year but have had a few lessons. I think my main problems are movement with my head and lower body. I will bow to your greater knowledge though. Apologies that the video is a bit narrow and missing the ball on the tee,I had the Iphone down low so the angle is not perfect either.

Any help is much appreciated.

Since no one has commented I figured I might add my 2 cents. My only thought is that it looks like you're standing up out of your swing when you come to contact. If you find yourself getting a lot of slices, this is probably it. What is your usual shot shape/ what is the shape of your really bad shots?

Thanks for your comments kmgeorge, I noticed that too, my bad shot is a slice right so that might explain it. I think I've been leaning too far forward on my feet and therefore am lifting up at impact. I will look at this at the range though and try and keep more level.

Thanks for posting.

1. Towards the top of your backswing you stop turning your body and just arm the club to the top. This accordingly limits power and may screw up your swing plane and correspondingly hinder accuracy.

Drill: This is a drill that can be used to teach a full shoulder turn. Take an iron and place your left hand on the grip, using your normal grip, and place the other hand on the hosel. Make sure that the thumbs point at each other and that they are facing up. IN this position, swing as far back as you can go. Take this position, and transfer it into your normal swing. There is no need to go farther back than your shoulders allow. Shorter is not bad, it will give you accuracy and a repeatable swing.

2. Shift more of your weight to your back foot on the back swing. This is not to say that you should sway, but try to feel roughly 70% of your weight on your right foot instep. MAke sure to keep your lower body stable though, and maintain the distance between both knees.

3. As previously mentioned, you stand up through impact. YOu can either work on this yourself. Video is a great tool to see if what you feel translates to reality... Or try this:

Optional Drill/Excercise: Stand parallel to a wall (preferably a mirror) and move side to side 2 shuffle steps (to go to the left left foot right foot follows etc.)in each direction while actively watching to make sure that your head stays down...

I would recommend that you view the Stack and Tilt videos, and read the book. I get the distinct impression that you are not coming forward with the swing, and not focusing on the fundamentals of the golf swing, as outlined in the Stack and Tilt videos. Are you consistently hitting the ground in the same place after hitting the ball with your irons. In Harvey Penick's books he says to stop with the driver, and go to the driver last. Start with the short game and move up to the driver when you are ready. Taking 50 big swings on the range with the driver, hoping to get 5 or 10 accurate and long is not a good preparation for the real game on the course. Go back to fundamentals. Place a small leaf on the ground in front of your left foot, and then further back. Can you consistently hit the leaf??? Every time? Start with the fundamentals and work up to the Big Dog (driver). Best of luck. Try Stack and Tilt, which I believe is the best instruction for the average golfer, and beginner. Then Harvey Pinnick is the guru of the mental game.

There are three (3) things that will get you breaking (90) faster than all driver swing changes combined:

1. Short Game
2. Short Game
3. Short Game

Spend 80% of your practice time working on chipping and putting and 20% on your long game and you'll achieve your goal faster than you imagine.

100% agree.

Put your driver away. Hit a hybrid off the tee. And learn to be consistent inside 125 yards.

Thanks all for your comments, some great advice, I've started using stack and tilt and noticed a tremendous improvement with my iron play. Not going to tinker too much with my driver yet as believe or not my driving is not too bad. I've also started hitting the range with just my wedge, 7-iron and hybrid.

I totally understand the short game comments and actually spend a lot of time in the house with foams balls just chipping against the wall, I'm finding that confidence is a huge part of improving my short game and feel like I'm getting somewhere.

I'll keep you posted how I get on and when I break 90!

Thanks again!
