After seeing the website, I'm confused.... They show a national rate of $125.. Then another rate for the Championship Course which ranges between $59-$71... I'm just wondering if anyone knows if the better rate is for local residents only or what? And if so, do they actually enforce it?

I've played there a handful of times and never been asked where I live. Always paid whatever the current double-digit rate was (as opposed to that $125 rate).

I am local, but I don't think they charge anything but the lower rate (don't see how they could -- it's a nice course, but it's not $125 nice).

I would definitely say so. I think they kept most of the layout of the original course out there (Big Creek), which was a decent track that was just never kept up very well. But they made a lot of aesthetic improvements, put in new fairways and greens, GPS systems for the carts, etc.

The course got damaged by the flooding from the Mississippi river this spring -- the high river waters backed up the rivers and streams that run near/through the property. But I played out there in early August and the course was mostly recovered (occasionally I saw some rough spots on greens, but at least about 90% of each green was in great shape).

One recommendation -- if you're debating between 2 sets of tees, go for the shorter option. If you're not really straight with your driver, you can end up some of the "native grass" areas that cover the course. If you're [b][u]very[/u][/b] lucky, you'll find your ball and be able to chop it out back into the fairway. If not, you're looking at a lost ball situation -- if there's any question, you might as well hit a provisional while still on the tee.

One final note -- if you play either of the back 2 tees (middle tees are about 6500 yds, back are 7000 yds, and tips are 7500), the GPS doesn't always automatically advance when you get to the next tee box. You may have to drive to one of the middle/forward tees to get it to click over, then back up. I've played from both 6500 and 7000, and consider myself lucky to have simply survived the 7000 tees, especially since the wind was up both times I played back there.

You'll definitely enjoy it if you go, even if you do get beat up a little bit.

I played there on Sunday (11/6) and I have never been asked where I live to determine what the greens fee is. You are correct though - the website does list a "national rate". I'd call the course and inquire.

I like the course a lot and think it is no worse than 2nd best in the Shelby County area, but I could not justify $125 for it in the off-season. The course is already dormant. With the exception of some overseeding on the tee boxes, everything is brown. Managment will not use chemicals on the course because of their Audobon certification. There is no sign of any flood damage that shut Mirimichi down for most of the summer and the greens roll good.
