Who has played them?
Planning a golf trip to Palm Springs in April and was just wondering if anyone has played either Terra Lago or Tahquitz. If so, what can you tell me about them? Good? Bad? We are also playing the following courses in the area: Silver Rock Mission Hills (Player Course) Indian Wells Also going to drive a little bit and play Pelican Hill and Torey Pines.

Terra Lago is the old skins game course. I love the south better then the north but both courses are really good well used to be when it was landmark. Silver rock is great Indian wells and mission hills all great tracks. I would say good luck with torry it is not worth it. Even when I was a resident and could walk it for 38 bucks it was not worth it.... Pelican will be the best you will play in southern California. Amazing play the north if you are going to play both go south and the north second.

I agree with jdhallissey's comments on Terra Lago and I always enjoy playing this course (North and South).

Tahquitz Creek has two courses which are very different experiences. The "Legend" course is a 1950's Buddy Bell design that was the original Palm Springs muni. The Legend is lined with older homes, has wide/flat fairways, smaller greens, and a straightfoward/simple layout. The "Resort" course was built in the mid 90's (Ted Robinson design)and will cost a bit more ($10-$15)to play but I much prefer this course; modern layout with lots of water, larger/tiered greens, contoured fairways, and is much more pleasing to the eye. However, if you are a long hitter, grip it and rip it type you might like the Legend better because this style of play will get you in trouble on the "Resort" which places a premium on accuracy over length.

Other tracks in the area that I like: Escena and Indian Canyons South (Palm Springs), Classic Club (Palm Desert) any of the PGA WEST tracks (La Quinta $$$), Westin Mission Hills (Rancho Mirage- Gary Player or Pete Dye) and Eagle Falls (Indio) which is near Terra Lago. I've never played the Indian Wells courses but I've heard they are very good. I've played SilverRock 9-10 times and it is beautiful but it almost always beats me up.

Rates start to go down a bit in April. May and June are my favorite months to play out here because rates go down dramatically then and it is still comfortable to play.

I just got back from a short trip down there.
Day 1: the Golf Club at La Quinta. Fun track and very playable. It was in pretty good shape and I enjoyed the round. Nothing too tricky. The bunkers were lacking sand, but they just reopened after overseeding and the bunkers are the last thing to get done.

Day 2" Silver Rock. This course just kicked our butts. It kinda just gets harder and harder as you go along. Nice setting, but I don't think I'd play it again. Not my style. Hate to see it with much wind.

Day 3. Indian Wells players. One of the best overall golf experiences I've ever had. The course was Immaculate and the Greens were near perfect. Firm, Fast and True, yet I could still back up the wedges and stop shots as needed.
Just a great course all around. My only complaint is there are no tees in the 6500yrd range. It's either 6200 or 6950. Some of the par 4's on the back play pretty short.
I loved the layout, jus a bit too expensive at $150 ea.
By far the beat of the 3 we played and the other 2 were pretty decent.
