My wife and I split a eclipse last night, a 2013 Evan Williams. It was really good, probably the best mouthfeel of any beer I've ever had, it was like so smooth and like silk chocolate, and just balanced perfectly.

Buuuuut, if it was $18, I'd buy it once or twice a month. $30, probably never again.

It's basically Square Grouper with mango. I loved Square Grouper, this slightly edges it out.

Chicago Lefty, If you want some speedway stout it could be easily arranged in return for some BCBS or BC Barleywine or a pliny or two lol


Thoughts on the Allagash, while I am not very familiar with the Tripel style ales I thought this makes a very good summer brew and entry into barrel aged beers for those not familiar, very floral and sweet flavors with just a hint of the oak from the bourbon barrels to offset the sweetness. Very solid refreshing beer that is not heavy like a stout or hoppy like an IPA and I am done with the hipster speak for a while

Nice! Saw your more recent post. Glad you liked it. They had a few others at the brewery that they don't sell. I've got some more pics from the brewery I can post in a bit.

 

I wasn't very informed about them coming in but after leaving I learned alot. Heavy Belgian influence. They actually had brew masters from Belgium come over and help design the whole system. Very cool.

 

After we left we hit up a local hole in the wall and they had allagash odyssey. It's a dark ale but very stout like. At 10.4% it was allllllmost kbs'ish without the heavy booze aftertaste.

 

All in all great trip.

I was not planning on buying any more beer until the end of the month but had to go get another Marin Dipsea 2013 too good not to have a couple bottles laying around especially since there is a good chance it never comes back to AZ distribution. Also grabbed another Black Diamond barrel aged grand cru had one during the masters and for $9 it was really really good. Only others that I am going to grab are another Sierra Nevada bourbon barrel bigfoot and another False summit from Elevation. In a couple weeks Firestone's next proprietor series Stickee Monkee releases hopefully will be able to grab a couple of those to add to my collection of 2015 Proprietor series. I think Odyssey is s dark ale similar to a Chimay blue label. My dad loves those...

 

Just finished the Bulls game. Enjoyed this beer far more than the game.

I think I want to start exploring stouts a little more. I don't really care for chocolate or coffee, and I'm into the boozier stuff, maybe 8% or higer. Btw, I'm located in Michigan. Got any recommendations?

I def can find yeti. I go to Colorado 4-6 times a yr for work. I can't even count how much Hercules I've brought home. I score Blvd dark truth on occasion as well.

Founders Imperial Stout and Bells Expedition Stout are two of the best standard imperial stouts around.

Not 100% sure what makes it out there but here are some of the ones I've had that aren't super rare

Alesmith speedway
founders breakfast stout not super boozey
Nebraska brewing co black betty
oskar blues ten fiddy
Abita bourbon street stout pretty inexpensive and not world beating but easy to find usually
I'm sure clown shoes has something like extremely angry beast

I'm positive there's more but a lot are limited like kbs parabola bcbs etc.

If you can find a fifty fifty eclipse Elijah Craig (purple wax) it's not cheep but it's damn good and imo worth it as a special occasion beer. They were limited run but not super hard to find around here because of the price. It's a Norcal beer so not sure their distribution

Ah it's Hercules that I got today not Titan. If you're toting that home from Colorado it must be good. I found one bomber of it a couple months ago but I failed to notice it was a year old and it was terrible. This is fresh.

I also love the yeti offerings. Not available in Michigan however but the chocolate oak aged is one of my favorites
