Went out to celebrate had a Alesmith Speedway nibs and beans. Kinda underwhelming to be honest but chocolate rain has pretty much ruined any other vanilla stout to me.

I LOVE Backwoods. Any year, any time, and place.

 

I wish I could say the same 2014 was one of my favorite beers of all time. A smokey whiskey/caramel soaked marshmallow is what it tasted like. 2015 and 2016 tasted more like a standard scotch ale which is decent I love a good scotch ale but there was very little barrel character in it anymore. Honestly rather drink a dirty bastxxx from Founders over the backwoods

 

After further review, I'm changing my mind and agreeing with you. Picked up a 4pk of Backwoods from the brewery the other day and I'm really not that impressed. You're right, not as good as prior years.

108 degrees+ all weekend, no golf for me since I suck now. Lots of pool time. Need to go pick up some solid session IPA stuff and meat for grilling.

Drinking local for a change lol. Grabbed a growler of Hazy Train from Scottsdale Beer Co. Pretty solid 6% NE style IPA. Not overpowered by sweetness

I need a session IPA recommendation from you guys. My wife's favorite was Slow Ride from New Belgium. Since they stopped making it, we've been searching for a replacement. No dice so far with any of the session IPAs we've tried to this point (Easy Jack, Introvert and a few others I don't recall). I liked the Lagunitas session (Any Time, I think), but can't get it locally.

Sessions have been my go to this summer for hanging at the pool when it is 110 degrees out

 

Pizza Port- Ponto has been my go to so far

Mike Hess Little IPA not bad

Easy Jack early pioneer but now kinda meh.

Few other locals etc that I have tried none of the names are coming to me at the moment, but I keep going back to the Ponto.

I also try to not give any more $$ to AB/InBev, but that's just me. Around here we have lots of great independent local choices but I know that's not the case everywhere.

Do you get Toppling Goliath there? a bit stronger but Psuedo Sue is a fantastic pale ale that is very very easy drinking at 6.5ish % it might be too easy drinking for a session beer. Great beer though. Stone Go To or Founders All Day might be easier finds too.

A friend picked this up for me while in Florida. Very tasty APA with a huge citrus taste. I always find the best beers from far away that I can't regularly get!

Whisky shop in St Andrews had tons of KBS bottles but at $10 a bottle i had to pass. Drank quite a few cask ales and some St Andrews brewing ipa but mostly stuck to the whisky on the trip

Played Lawsonia Links this morning and stopped at Knuth's Brewing Co in Ripon WI on my way home...enjoying a wood fired pizza-

 

 

 

This place is really nice. House brews are solid, tried the coffee stout and it is good, but anytime there is a CW barrel aged brew on tap, forget about the rest?....wander if they will agree to send me with a growler ?
