Working on swing plane

Recommended Posts

Had a lesson today and my grip, stance, and contact have come a long way from where I started. I'm now working on my swing plane, trying to flatten it out. Driver and 3W are slicing or straight pulls when I miss shots, irons push right or fade when missed. Coach recommends doing slow motion swings with video monitor for a few weeks, followed by practice swings with video monitor for another few weeks to flatten it out, its going to take months to get fully there which I understand.

My thoughts are to keep my left arm across my chest on the back swing. Here are my videos from today, before video is my starting swing today, after video is swing using thoughts and tips I just mentioned. I know I am not on plane fully but am improving with this after swing, my coach said its a big change to do all at once and this is a good step on the way, is that the way to do it, or just go for as most on plane as possible right now? I'm looking for any pointers on how to train myself for a flatter swing or and other thoughts on my swing regarding plane, thank you :)

My thoughts.

First, great improvement from the before to the after.

Second, your first video in not over the top as you claimed in another thread. won't get into a long debate as i started two threads on the subject, but it is not over the top.

With your current backswing , the whole board and your Golftec guy could nitpick it, but you can play some damn good golf from there.

Your big issue now is your upper body is in front of the ball at impact. You need some spine tilt behind the ball at impact to give your arms some more room to swing. You can see how they are crowded and have no room even in the after video.

Notice how when you shift your weight to the left, your whole upper body moves with your lower body.

What needs to happen is your lower body needs to continue a good weight shift and your upper body must stay back (head still...hate that term but some understand the idea better to think of it that way).

When the upper body stays behind the ball and the lower body shifts toward the target, that creates tilt behind the ball with all clubs (varies according to club and ball position).

That tilt creates room for the arms, better angle of attack and forward shaft lean, while allowing the arms to stay connected and the club to release around and with the body.

All without need for manipulation.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

The problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.

Thanks Monte, I appreciate your advice. Please note that the "after" swing is not my current swing, it is the swing I am now trying to get to without thinking about it (my current goal swing). I know I am not fully on plane in this goal swing, my coach said its a big change to do all at once and this is a good step, is that the way to do it or should I go for as most on plane as possible right now?
