Virginia Beach Golf in February?

Looking for some advice.

We are a couple of Canadians located near the border to N.Y. State and are thinking about going to Virginia Beach for some golf in mid February. Has anyone done this? I can see the conditions say around 10 celsius, which isn't too big of a deal. Sweater and golf pant weather for us!

Looking for some advice if anyone has done this, and their thoughts? Conditions (are the courses playable), weather (would it rain each day). Best golfer of the group is a 12 handicap so we are not looking at scoring our best or breaking a course record.

And, can anyone point me in the best place to put a package together? We are looking at arriving on Feb 17th around supper time, and leave Monday around lunch. Ideally the package would have a round for Saturday, Sunday and Monday with the possibility of adding another round or 2 if we feel the need.

Yes... I've googled this with limited results. Hoping some of your fine people can help me out.

Best.

S.

Why VA Beach? Can you go another 2 hours south to North Carolina outerbanks? You'd have much better weather and some pretty good choices of courses. I've played one or two of the VA Beach area courses (only because I was in the area) it's certainly not any place I'd make a special trip to for golf. Heck before going there.

or heck instead of Carolina you could even cut your trip shorter than VA Beach and go to Ocean City...LOTS of great choices there. The temps will defintely be on the cool side, maybe 10 degrees F cooler than VA Beach. There is a outing company called Pams Ocean City Golf that has some pretty good packages. And the magazine they send out to you has some nice eye candy on the front :)

Coach...I didn't mean any offense to your area, I just wouldn't think of it as a golf destination. Now I will say you have a wonderful boardwalk and one of the nicer beachfronts I've seen in a while.

Glad you can help them out.

The Ocean City Maryland and southern Delaware areas have some great golf courses, and weather would be about the same as Virginia Beach. Rates start creeping up in March, so February is ideal. If you're willing to play early when it's still cold, you can get 36 in each day if you're all willing. I'm partial to Eagle's Landing, the muni course -- rates are good and it's usually in nice shape. There are some executive courses in southern Delaware in and around Rehoboth Beach, and they can be fun in the afternoons.

Hi,

I live in northern Outer Banks, and was born and raised in Hampton Roads - am familiar with many courses. Feb is not a bad time to play around here - just layer up a bit and bring wet gear in your bag. If you have a cart cover, you may want to bring that as well. Probably won't need it, but bring it anyway.

I play mostly down here at Carolina Club and the Pointe year-round, but there are many great courses in VA Beach and Tidewater, and you can pretty much spend not-too-much or spend a LOT on play. Right off hand, I'd recommend Carolina Club, Bide-a-Wee in Portsmouth (a top-50 public course by GD a few years ago), Nansemond River, Heron Ridge, VB National, maybe Sleepy Hole. Some which are not in good shape imo are Cahoon, Battlefield, Kempsville, maybe Hell's Point.

If you want to drive a little, there's Cypress Creek, Golden Horseshoe, Kingsmill, etc.

try williamsburg va. about a half hour 45 minutes from va. beach. golden horseshoe has 36 holes, the gold course is right at the top of my list and i've played alot top courses in the new york area. also kingsmill has 3 courses (the river course is the top one,and is fantastic). then their is a bunch of other adequate courses in the area. only problem may be the weather, i was there in early april and it was low 50's with a light rain every day.
