Did you ever get a set of nippons ? I love mine and they are very easy to control distance with IMO not the straightest shaft but I love the distance control . You know what your going to get .
Yeah, I have the Nippons in my Scratch Irons right now. I like them, but I feel like their light weight may be killing me.

Bright side is my dad offered to pitch in some money if I want new ping irons... I have had to pay for my clubs for the last 2 years... Combine that with this site and it has been rough.
The next question:
Ping ansers, or miura?
Also what shafts should I look into? (105 driver ss, smooths tempo and transition.)
What are you not liking about your Scratch irons?
I really like my Scratch irons overall, but not really the shafts. I want to rebuild an iron set from scratch...but not with Scratch :) .I think I am losing accuracy and forgiveness with my Scratch irons. While the Ping Ansers are kind of bulky, they still offer a nice amount of playability, and I love the feel.
If your gonna spend that kinda money look into all your options. Ping ansers are way overpriced for your money.
A large trait the clubs I play posses is good looks... if it fits my eye, I'll play it. Few iron sets on the market today fit my eye, and I don't think very many other models of irons that do are considerably cheaper.

What Miura irons?
It looks like Miura is out of the question now. I was planning to get a set just like yours, maybe more toward the cb-501's, but pretty similar overall

are you opposed to AP2s? I have a set of tour issue 710s that I am absolutely in love with.
I think they are okay, but they don't really wow me.

Why is miura out of the question?

" I will pitch in money if you decide to buy clubs that I have heard of" -my Dad

Haha! If you find the nippons too light. Try the PXI. I did and never looked back. They're like a surgeons scalpel, precise ;)

I've not read everything but how about the VR pro blades? Or what i'm resisting to buy, Callaway musclebacks?

Wow... I had an eye opening fitting today.
A lot has changed in the past year, which stems from me growing nearly 8 inches.
My current specs for my irons:

+ 1/2"
Standard lie
Nippon N.S. Pro 950 gh stiff
3 extra wraps

BUT after my fitting...

Std. Length
3 degrees upright
stiff flex mid/high kick 110-120 gram range (We didn't get an exact shaft, although my fitter reccomended pxi 6.0 for a start)
Midsize grips AND possibly extra wraps

I have large hands.
The search begins!

That's good for you to know but why did they move you to regular ?
I have really long arms. My pro actually called me a freak when fitting me lol.
I see makes sense then. We're the stiffs hurting any portion of your iron play ?

Oops no I will still be playing stiff, I thought you meant the length

The change in length is interesting. Loved the pxi when demoing, asked you about them a couple days ago. Make any decisions on model during the fitting?
Nope, I mean I know what sort of shaft I need, just haven't narrowed it down completely.

I worded that wrong, I was asking if any clubhead jumped out to you as it sounded like you were just in a fitting.
I'm pretty sold on Ping Ansers. I was playing around with the i20's and they launch nicely, but the feel is not nearly as good as the Anser.

Teaser from my "backyard course"... Designed, maintained, and played on by yours truly :) Notice the rooftop hole, as well as the literally "on the water" hole. Great risk reward hole. Green is in bad shape this time of year though.

Just wanted to stop in and say how awesome this is. I have always wanted to start a backyard project what I was at your age, but never pulled the trigger. How many hours a week would you say you maintain your practice facility? Also, how often do you get compliments from your neighbors?

I really recommend making one, if the space is available Yes, I am blessed to live on nice property, but the green itself, the bunker, and the green mower and roller have totaled $300 which is a steal in my mind (yes, I really mean $300, I didn't leave out any zeros!). The big lawn overall takes approximately 30 minutes to mow, and then to cut and roll the green and rake the bunker takes about 20 minutes. The green get cut every day to every other day, while the big lawn gets mowed 2x a week so I would say I usually spend 3 hours a week maintaining it. I have fun while doing it though, there is something exhilarating about cutting a green. My family is in a pretty remote location, so our neighbors can't see the green from their houses. Often times passing kayakers will ask me questions about it if I am "playing". I have also heard people talking about it from sailboats, as the sound carries farther than most people think.

On a different note, I got in 45 holes today. I shot 70 in my first nine on the easier of my two home courses with an eagle on the last, played a quick nine on the other course, and then played another 18 from the back tees in 1:15!!!! I have a new obsession with playing the "posts" at my home course, which are the tips. The course is 7,200 (which is like 10,000 for all you non-northerners lol) and it is a completely different course. Today I shot a 74 from there which is under the course rating! I think that I am able to test my game more from the tips, thus allowing me to improve quicker.
There is no better feeling than having an expansive 18 hole golf course completely to yourself as you fly down the fairway in a golf cart. Today I played against the sunset, and it was awesome!

love the yard. how does the green role? how do you care for it other than mowing?
8 to a 9, although that is not official. I have to water it (although the amount of rain takes care of that), and I also roll it. I have 3 major tools that I use
A reel mower from craigslist that cost $40 and cuts 3/16" of an inch
A roller that has sand inside which cost $20
A cart that holds the hose and some other garden tools which was $20

You end up buying that button back #9?
There is still time to make up my mind if it doesn't sell... I know the builder well. I'd prefer to add a white damascus or protype ix ht 9 to the lineup before I start going crazy, but there are very few button back type Odysseys I have seen so I may buy it.
Anser irons have to come first I think.
