Dormie Club

I'm heading down to Pinehurst next month and we are looking at possibly playing Dormie Club one afternoon. Has anyone here played it yet? What did you think?

Dormie is really good, but still not in #2's league locally or Sand Hills / Friars Head (from C&C's portfolio). That being said, it's a must play in the area.

Played it back in December. Definitely felt it was worth it.

While I have not played Dormie, I have played five other C&C designs. Their skills are exceptional and their product is heads above most modern layouts. I would heartily recommend a visit to any of their courses.

The Dormie is big local buzz as of late. Slated to be 100% private at the end of this year. Now is a good time to play and many are doing so. Plan on playing it myself soon. Heard nothing but rave reviews.

its a must play. i lived in southern pines 07-11. first time i played dc only had 13 holes open. i also caddied there opening season. bring a laser,get a caddy and walk if the legs are up to it. be aware 7,8,10,11,13 are all tough as nails.

play it bro.. it is an oustanding course and well worth the upcharge. I was struggling at the time when i played there and the course made me pay severly. You need to knock the cover off the ball to play there because there are alot of holes that you must carry to make it to greens and fairways. They left the terrain as natural as possible and it was a course ill never forget playing.

A buddy and I have a 2:00 p.m. tee time on 4/12/12 at Dormie. If any WRXers in the area want to join, that would be great!

From everything I've read about it, it sounds amazing and should be on the course itinerary if you're playing a few rounds in the Pinehurst area. Can't wait to play a tournament there this summer. Just wish I could afford to get a practice round in so I don't show up totally blind.

My brother lives near that course I'm flying in on the 12th we plan to play there on the 13th, going to miss you by a day. it will be my first round of the year as I'm up in Maine and the courses up here most likely will not open before then.

When you check the website it just mentions a recent course by C&C. If this is going to be private by the end of the year I will take a trip out just to play.

Does anyone know for sure?

You should just call and ask them for a tee time. I'm sure if they're not allowing public play they'll let you know...Good Luck

A friend owns a vacation condo at Pinehurst and we played Dormie last fall with a couple of buddies. Definitely a can't miss experience while still daily fee. I've played Friar's Club as well and, while not as spectacular a location, Dormie is its equal as a pure golf course. I think we paid $150 + caddy.

Given the economy, it is hard to imagine this will go private anytime soon, but you never know. Don't miss it.

You mean Friars Head?

Dormie is really good, but its no Friars Head. Not even close, IMO. Then again, I liked Friars Head more than Sand Hills.

Meant Friar's Head of course. That's what I get for posting quickly from Droid. If I had to pick a.favorites of the 2, I would say Friar's as well, partly due to the location, completed clubhouse, etc. However Dormie is a close 2nd (no Sand hills for me yet either) and still has some maturing to go through. In Pinehurst, I would place it second after #2. Though again, CCNC, Pine Needles, #8 etc are all "cant miss" when in that area. Truly a golf mecca (pinehurst) .

Just got back last night from Pinehurst. We played Dormie Friday afternoon after playing National in the morning. We got there a little early so we decided to have a few beers on the porch overlooking #18 before our round. The staff was extremely accommodating, super friendly easily the best we encountered. We were the last group to tee off so we had the course to ourselves. Our forecaddie Gene was awesome, great guy with some great stories. The course is nothing short of spectacular, I loved every hole on the course. Easily one of my favorite courses. If you have a chance get out there and play it, you will love it.

We are playing it on April 14th, can't wait. Thanks for the reviews! We were going to do a daytrip from Charlotte to play #2 and head back but decided to play Tobacco Road twice in the same day and then play Dormie the next morning before heading back. It was a tough decision, but we wanted to play more golf and #2 was so expensive, we would have been limited to 1 round.

The clubhouse at Friars Head is INCREDIBLE (as is the course)! For those who haven't seen it (or been in it) it's basically a Stone Castle (it's parts were brought from Europe according to the story). I've only played there and been in it once (I was the only person in there besides the bartender/manager who was super nice and accomodating), but I'll never forget it. Very, very special place! I just found the "completed clubhouse" quote above a little ironic so I had to comment!
