247 holes in a day with 61 birdies and 2 eagles!

A friend of mine played a charity challenge from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on a recent Saturday to raise money for a local home for abused children. Threading through the regular weekend competition field of 200 golfers in a cart with a caddy to pull the pins and tidy up his pitch marks, he managed almost 14 full rounds (averaging 20.5 holes per hour) and shot approximately 40 under for the day. (He was sponsored per hole, per birdie and per eagle so he recorded those totals -- but was otherwise going too fast to keep a fully reliable card.) So far, his effort has raised the local equivalent of about $20,000.

I say the same thing when my cellphone goes off in a movie theatre in the middle of the movie.....i don't see the problem. I paid for my ticket....just like everyone else.

Was his cart red with a prancing horse on it? Did he have his clubs waiting on the tee box etc for him? Don't see how you can play that fast, thats a round and change in one hour.

You need a (very) good and determined golfer, a (couple of) cart driver(s) and a caddy. Tee off, peel out to ball while mentally picking club on the way, hit again immediately, book it to green, putt out, book it to next tee. Repeat for 12 hours.

does seem like more holes than possible. so he was a one man event and all others on the course were forced to let him play though?

A course near me does a 100 holes of golf thing every year. 2 people per hole in their own cart. Spotters on certain holes, caddies on greens to tend flags and fix ball marks, lunch on the go, no stopping all day.... still takes sun up to sun down to complete the 100 holes. Not sure how 1 person manages to do 247 while weaving thought a full course, no matter how good.

if a course is 6700yds, thats an avg of 372yds per hole, or about 1115ft, which is a shade over 1/5 of a mile. a shade over a 1/5 of a mile in 3 min = 14-15 min per mile. the cart would have to avg 4-5 mph with the stoppages included, so i would say it is feasible with an open course and no extra waiting, but not through normal traffic unless its private with 80 members. pretty impressive and sounds like fun!

edit: to avg 4.5 mph a cart could go 0 half the time and 9 half the time, which seems about right.

Well, since the members are the ones who were sponsoring him, I'm sure they were kept updated by his cadre of cart drivers and knew when to let him through.

A local pro here held the world record for awhile, he set it in 2004:

"With the aid of a golf cart, Robb James of Canada played 851 holes at Victoria Golf Course at Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, over 24 hours on June 21-22, 2004"
