Tournement Idea for 8 Golfers? (Ryder cup style)

Recommended Posts

Anyone want to share some Golf tournement Ideas? I'm thinking a Ryder cup still event, but looking for some suggestions

The details

There is 8 of us heading to Whitefish MT in May, and we are doing 2 rounds on SAT, 2 on Sunday and 1 on monday. 5 of the 8 fall into the 7-12 handicap, 2 are 12-16, and 1 is 20 +.... We are not playing for anything special (just an old ugly Green jacket and a Gopher trophy) but I would like to handicap it as best as possible..

Thanks in Advance for ideas guys!!!

Modified Net Stableford with HC adjustments after each round. Great format with huge point swings hole to hole...very exciting.
100% handicap strokes on the card. Points awarded as follows for the following "net" scores:

Double Eagle: 12
Eagle: 8
Birdie: 4
Par: 2
Bogie: 1
Dbl. Bogie: 0
Triple Bogie or worse: (-3)

Adjust HCs after each round to keep it tight:

Maximum handicap adjustment of 2 strokes per round in either direction based upon each player’s performance per round relative to a Stableford quota of 36 points (which is net par through 18 holes). Adjustments calculated utilizing the following scale:

Stableford Score Next Round Adjustment

-11 points or worse Add 2 strokes

-6 to -10 points Add 1 stroke

0 to -5 points No adjustment

+1 to +5 points Subtract 1 stroke

+6 points or better Subtract 2 strokes

Player with the highest point total after 5 rounds is your overall winner, plus you can give out prizes for the winner of each round.

Intresting, i've never used stableford before, could you explain some more? for example our better golfers are going to shoot 80-90 per round, and our worst golfer (heads and tails worse then everyone else ) wil be 120-130 could you explain using these numbers? Please and Thanks

Each player will be getting 100% of his handicap on the card. If your friend's handicaps are accurate, that, along with the adjustments after each round, will keep the field level.

I have used this format many times. It works very well, and is great fun. Make sure you pair the point leaders together for the final round.

Another idea is to do 2 man teams using the same format. The individual hc adjustments remain the same, and the outcome would be determined by combined points.

If you shoot me a pm with an email adress, I'll send you a copy of the last tournament book I put together for one of my trips. It fully explains the format.

That's how one of my leagues does scoring. Freaky! We have one scoring change that is 3 or 4 over gets you -1 with double par -3. So you can still shoot a 9 on a hard par 5 and get -1 but a 6 on a 3 will get you -3.

I like this quite a bit for weekend play and going to play with last years scores to see if we can apply it to our league.

Thanks!!! It really is a fun format because it's every player for themselves and doesn't realy on getting paired up with a teammate that could be having a bad day.
