What's the longest you've stayed with one putter?

What was it and how long did it last?
Recently, my turnover rate for putters has increased from borderline neurotic to bat-sh% crazy ;) . I would like my putter to be a stable, reliable element in my bag that will stay put for years. I'm sure many of you would agree that your putter should be the club you have the strongest bond with. Obviously, it's tough to establish this bond while routinely switching putters 3 times in one half-hour practice session. (By the way, this message board has done nothing but aid and abeit the habit.)

So, let's see "old trusty." (cool) How long has it been in the bag? What is it? I know this topic is not as sexy as a thread about a brand new Tour Cameron or something like that but, there's something to be said for loyalty, I'd say. I want to see your time-tested gamers. It doesn't matter if it's custom made or you if found it at a garage sale, post those pics and tell it's story.

I have a softtail arriving in the mail any day now. Hopefully, it's the one for me.

My father used to say " if you've putted well with a putter you should never get rid of it ". I hate to admit it but he's right! Over the years putters have come and gone and i have sold a few that i wish i'd held onto. For me though its my Scotty Cameron Coronado two. It is not the easiest putter to use and if you're not on your game will higlight any flaws in your technique. However it is a pure uncomplicated design and the reward is when you are putting well the feel of the face is incredible and when i think back all my great putting rounds have been with that. I think at the end of the day it all comes down to confidence and wheras some putters may "on paper" give the ball more roll ,if you feel comfortable with a club and can see yourself holing putts with it that counts for more than anything else. Saying all of that if you're struggling with your putts a change of putter can often do the trick! (cool)

My first real putter was an Acushnet Bulls Eye flange. Bought it from a buddy when I was 11 or 12 (I'm 42 now). Used it, and only it, until about 5 years ago, so 25 - 26 years. I still have it, and actually still use it once in a while. Fixing to have it refurbed by Titleist.

Β

Bought a Ray Cook heel shafted just for a change and used it until about a month ago (so, 5 years for that one), when I bought a YES! Callie that's in my bag now. Bought it because I wanted an anser head, and my youngest daughter's name is Callie. This putter always be mine or hers, if she plays.

Β

I also have another non-flange vintage Bulls Eye that's in rough shape. It was given to me by me ex brother-in-law, but was never used.

Β

So far, that's all the putters I've ever bought excluding the Odyssey I gave my dad (who has an original Ping that's 25+ years old he still uses).

Β

I would say my father and I agree with daddydave and his dad.

Β

But you know, some of those Mills/Betts/SC's really are pretty. And the TM TP Maranello is sharp, also....this site is so bad for me!!

I had a Ping Anser 2 in my bag for about 4 years. I kept taking it out and then putting it back in. Couldn't seem to replace it until I got a Baby Ben that my wife says WILL be in the bag for many years. (cool)

Nothing. Every club in my bag is open to get benched, traded, or sold on e-Bay at any time. I have been thru 6 putters since July of '05 and only my Odyssey White Hot #1 has made it back into my bag and that's only b/c I'm looking for something new as we speak. I'm sure once I find something I truely like I will stick with it, but for now the search continues.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I figured there had to be some of you out there who had long-term runs with the same putter.

McDavis- 25 years, that's impressive.

Choeppner-1 month. That's impressive as well, but for slightly different reasons. (cool)

I have been using a TaylorMade Tc.1 for at least the last 15 years. Previous to that I had an Anser 4 in the bag for a few years and before that a very old TPM something or other for a while plus a very early Ram Zebra, loads of old Wilson blades like the 8802 and lots of other stuff.

Β

15 years is a long time to have been using the same putter but just lately I have been thinking unfaithful thoughts about getting a new TP Mills mallet style thing made, I think I probably will.

I played an original Odyssey Rossie II for about 7 years until I switched to the DFX two-ball.

Tracy....I meant to comment on another thread you had on putters...you sure have been going trough a lot of them lately. And you call me a putter ho! :) Just kidding! :crazy2:

Β

I have been known to rotate through a lot of putters. The one thing I've noticed, is that it was more mental than an actual statistical problem with my putters. If I had a bad round I'd switch out. If there were three bad rounds in a week...well there would be three new putters in the bag. I've purchased at the most about three putters in a day. I think after the numerous purchases I've made, I've finally come to the realization after forcing myself to use one putter for an extended period of time, a bad putting round can be easily followed by an excellent putting round.

Β

I've putted with my Byron for about three weeks straight now. I've had the urge to pick up three other putters since but have actually forced myself to get through a bad round and hope for something better the next time. This has probably been the longest I've stayed with a putter this year. Do yourself and your wallet a favor...force yourself not to change. :pimp:

Β

Now with that said, I've probably jinxed myself and will find an urge that I can't pass up next week to buy another putter. :)

Well back in the day a Ray Cook putter stayed in my bag for 10 years. I buy a lot of putters but they dont take place of my gamer which is a Left handed 2 ball DFX with FF shaft and Iomic blue grip. Since I am in Michigan I am not playing and I have been hitting about 200 putts a night with a Ping JAS Ally. Feels great will end up being the putter I use on quick greens. Scotty B
