Barona Creek Rates?

There is mention of a discount for Club Barona members. (free membership). Does anyone know what the rates are for Club Barona members? It's not listed on the rate sheet.

 

Will be visiting San Diego in mid September and am planning a round at Barona. probably weekday.

Oh hell, I just read this:

The Barona Club rates are listed right there on webpage you linked to. They have different levels depending on how much you play at the casino, such as the "Classic Club", "Gold", "Platinum", etc. They'll give the Classic Club rate to anyone; I've never known anyone to pay the rack rate there.

Give Maderas a try instead. It's also a place you won't have to pay rack rate - just call them and ask for the resident rate or better. GolfNow also has some good deals with them, so hopefully those will still be in effect when you visit.

Thanks! Since I will spend exactly $0 in the casino, I assume I could get the Classic Club rate?

I'm not sold on Maderas at this point. A lot of recommendations but their marketing pitch kind of puts me off - [i]"step onto the first tee and enjoy the courses three lakes, five waterfalls, and over forty acres of native wildflowers..." [/i] lol

I've never even signed up for the Barona Blub and get the Classic rate whenever I've played there. But too bad the course is closed when you're here.

I'm LOL at the Maderas marketing pitch - it's my home course and I play there several times a month, but that pitch sounds more like a Trump course than what Maderas is really like. I can't even think where the "waterfalls" really are; they have a creek through parts of the property but if there are waterfalls they're very natural feeling. The lakes only really come into play on a few holes and also feel natural and not contrived.

I think the best public courses in the area are Barona, Maderas, Aviara, and Torrey South. Aviara is really nice but it is a resort course that's almost over landscaped. They don't seem to ever have deals, but at the twilight rate it's a decent value.

I'm a Maderas member as well, but The Grand Del Mar is better than those you mention (except Torrey when tuned up)

As indicated that was my opinion of public courses, and the Grand isn't a public course anymore....you either have to be a member or stay at the resort, which is very pricey. And frankly I don't think it is that good anymore.

I played it about a month ago and it was in pretty poor condition - the fairways were spotty and had significant bare spots, the greens were mediocre at best with large patches under repair and some bare spots. The service was alse really spotty - we had to hunt around to find someone to arrange our cart and when our cart died on the 8th hole we had to walk from there to the turn and couldn't find a soul at the cart station, so we had to go find a replacement ourself. Never saw a beverage cart once the whole round, or a marshal (which was needed because it was slow - it took 5 hours). My playing partners used to play the Grand regularly before it turned private and had previously said they thought is was the best in the area, but after this last round they felt it was nothing like it used to be.
