2 Man Scramble... Winner!!!!

Played in...and won...a 2 Man Scramble this weekend and I thought it was quite the awesome format to share with everyone. Typical Scramble rules applied except at each par 3 tee box(5 par 3's on the course we played) there was a bottle of hard alcohol. You could take a mulligan on the par 3's, but the penalty for the mulligan was you had to take a shot of alcohol first. You could have as many mulligans on each par 3 tee box as you wanted lol.

 

Anyways my buddy and I(both 12 handicaps) played horrible on the front. Both lost our tee shots on the first hole and had to birdie to bogey. Bogied the par 5 8th and the par 4 9th for a 1 over 36(course was par 71). Got our lives together on the much more difficult back 9 and ended up shooting a 4 under 32 when everyone else was going the opposite direction(probably from the mulligans). Get to the club house and realized we tied for the low score. What I didn't know is that didn't matter.

 

The guy running the tournament took the handicap of the players and divided by 2 for each team and you got that many strokes off your score. So we were 12 handicaps divide by 2 and we got 6 strokes. The other group that shot the 68 were 10 handicaps so they only got 5 strokes. We win 62-63. What I thought was great about this format though is my dad and my girlfriend both 30 handicaps shot shot 84 and since they received 15 strokes ended up with a 69 and so on down the line. It ended up being very tight on the scoreboard even though the scores ranged from our 68 to the last place team that shot 98. The one pairing of single handicaps had a bad day and shot 70(adjusted 66 for their 8 handicaps).

 

I wanted to share not only because the WRXers came out on top, but because I thought the alcohol was a hilarious touch and the scoring system will give you a way to keep your next scramble a little more competitive.

From what I understand the one single handicapped group missed the green on the last par 3 of the front 9 4 times which contributed to their awful back 9 lol.

Also the booze was free and I did witness a guy face plant while trying to pick his ball up out of the 16th hole.

Luckily the only par 3 green we missed was the last par 3 which was a Schnapps hole and it was the 17th so it didn't kill us.

It was set up Cuervo on the 3rd hole, Maker's Mark on the 5th hole, Baccardi Superior on the 7th, Cuervo again on the 14th and Peppermint or Peach Schnapps on the 17th. So not only were there groups getting tossed they were mixing types of alcohol to boot.

Congrats on the win, having free shots available sounds like a great idea.

My old club had a year ending tournament....late fall when it was getting cold already at which you could take shots at the turn for a reduction of one stroke per shot of alcohol taken ...made for lots of laughter on the back nine and keept people warm as well.

Depending on what the shots were I think I could do some damage in that tourney at 6'4" 230. Get a 2 to 1 advantage on the Rickie Fowler body types lol

Foxtail in Rohnert Park. We played the South course. It was the first time I have ever seen it. Course was in ok shape. Greens were the worst combo...lightning quick but very bumpy. The only saving grace was they over watered so they greens held any and everything. Supposedly the North Course is much nicer. 90 minute drive for me though so I probably won't play the course again until next year's tourney.

I think that I would have had a hard time wtihin a few holes after playing the 5th. The others don't interest me much.
