2007 Equipment Changes

Whats in your 2007 bag ?
I am declaring 2007 to be the Year of the Putter for me.

I have already decided on the following Equipment :

Driver : FT-5 with either a Code 6 or an Altus, X-flex.

3 Wood : X-Hot with the Code 8 X flex. (current 3 wood)

Fairway Wood/ Hybrid : Adams 4555 19*, If I can get my hands on one. Shaft TBA.

Irons : Callaway X20 Tours with 6.5 Projext X shafts

Wedges : My trusty X-Tours with PM grinds.

So that leaves me with the putter issue.

My Wish is to have a Centershafted mallet that is perfectly balanced and is the size of my current TM Fontana. A insert is not important.

If someone knows of such an animal please advise.

My 2007 is the year of the iron:

I have a set of Tour Stage X-Blade CB2 coming soon. The stock shaft is the Nippon 950 and I doubt they will last long with my swing. I cannot wait to get the lies and shafts dialed in right this Spring. My goal is to tighten up my iron game to give myself more chances for birdies. I should work on my driver but first comes first.

Also, I've made a switch to an XG 2 Ball. I really want to make it an entire year without switching flat sticks.

Red X2 - it will feel much more solid than the Futura Phantom

That, too. Both have made me consider going back to a mallet more than once.

Well, I'm hoping to stick with this bag:

FT-i or FT-5

Sonartec GS Tour

Miura irons and wedges

XG 2-Ball

I would be interested in the new x forged though

I'm not playing anywhere near enough to change equipment as much as before...so my bet is to just get everything dialed in like it used to be. Shall we have a challenge where we post our bags for 2007 and see who is the first to change? That would be funny, we'd probably all lose by next week..:drinks:

Driver-most likely to change to the SUMO

Fairway Woods-nothing changing there, love my T-60's

Hybrid-all set with the idea PRO

Irons-CCI Forged will challenge the Pro Combo Tour's.

Wedges-all set with the SV Tour's

Putter-YES! Callie going nowhere

Ball-currently trying out the new '07 Black vs. Platinum

Shafts.........now this is where all the confusion, err, testing starts. I'm going over to X-flex again, at least to start the year, with the sole hope of making my misses a bit better. Shaft weight is going to be one factor I am going to mess around with, might try going slightly lighter in the woods and irons, but keep my current D5 swingweight. Also, Diamana's, Pershing's, V2's, etc. will all be on the list I need to decide on.

I have owned both the Red X and the Futura Phantom putters. What I am looking for is better sight lines and most important feel.

Maybe a Gauge design ?

I did try the new 2007 ProV1 ball today while playing at River Ridge. I was lucky enough to get a sleeve. Much improved in my opinion over the previous models. Good distance and control.

Only change in the forseeable future is the V2 High Launch I'm putting in my driver in the next day or two and maybe some new wedges. I'm pretty happy with everything else. I better get everything settled before my new "venture" begins because the disposable income will be cut significantly at the start.

For the record:

Driver: HiBore 10.5 - Proforce V2 High Launch S (yup, S)

3 wood: Sonartec SS3.5 15 - Fuji Tour Platform 27.3 X

Hybrid: TM Rescue Mid 19 - Diamana Blue 83 X

3-PW: Tour Stage MR-23 US Spec CB - Tour Concept X1

SW: Vokey Raw 54 - DG X100

LW: 588 Gunmetal 60 - DG S400

Putter: SC Circa 62 #2

Ball: ProV1

Anyone beat 5 different OEMs? :fool:

Cobra HS9 -- willing to change depending on Trackman fitting

HiBore 3 Wood -- solid through 2007

Titleist Hybrids -- not going anywhere

Tour Stage Irons -- best irons made

Cleveland CG11 Wedges -- sticking with these too

Odyssey XG 2 Ball -- this is the tough one to keep long term

Bridgestone e6 (winter) B330s (summer)

I guess Cobra and Titleist would be the same OEM. That's 4 for me.

I think that Trackman may change several bags in 2007.

From what I've read, Trackman isn't very good at getting spin information - hard for radar to read that. I don't think it matters much for driver fittings as you can see the whole trajectory (launch & descent angles).

I really want to launch it higher with the same spin as I have now. I think a 10.5 deep faced head and a tip stiff shaft (Code-6 should still work) will let me do that -- oh, and don't forget the draw bias. Stupid fade. The HS9 has neutral to fade bias which I am afraid isn't going to work for next year.

What head has a nice deep face and some hook in it? FT-3 doesn't generate enough spin for me + I don't like the profile. TM is totally out of the question for obvious reasons BSG. What does that leave me with? 905S? X460? Maybe the FT-5 is the ticket even though the face is shallow.

Keep in mind that after the driving range fitting, we can go back and get on the HotStix software, hit balls into the net and get the final spin readings.

Best of both worlds.

Drew,

The two drivers to keep in mind are the FT-5 and the new Adams Insight Tour driver. Both are due in Feb. and both impressed me with thier looks and shape.

I have to tell you that this G5 Tour with the Creation Silver 65 that I have been hitting is money.

Also, Russell now has all of the Creations, Oziks, Fuji's, V2's and Diamana's for testing. I really want to try the Creation Copper.

I will edit and start a sign up list in the Trackman thread for our fitting outing.

Hopefully this year will be irons. I NEED a new set, or at least new shafts. I started playing with old wilson staff blades and love them, then I went to the NDS(got them for my B-day, but they gave it to mea couple months in advance)) and they were good for a while, now I hit the ball soooooooooo high, the shafts aren't stiff enough(reg/really weak stiff) I need an x-stiff. I would love to get a set of Bridestones' or Mizzys' just something with a players cavity or blades(I love the look and I am a good ballstricker)

Happy New Year, Houston!

I'd say 2007 will be the year of trying all the new drivers/shafts & optimizing for me.

D: TaylorMade 425 Tour 9.5*/TP-7x

3: Royal Collection Super CV BBD Type-H (what a name!)/Fuji Pro-80 & Taylor Made 13* Smoothie/TW-74

2H: Nickent Genex Tour/Accuflex Icon HL

i: Lehman grinds/Project X with Golf, Etc.-Clearlake "magic dust" sprinkled on them

w: Titleist Tour Spin Milled 54*/10* & 60*/06*/S400

p: Cameron GSS Newport 2 "thin face" & Yes Callie

Still don't see anything touching my 3-woods.

Tried the Adams Idea Pro/"Blue by You" but was disappointed in that.

Irons solidly in the bag.

Might try a new set of Tour wedges since my buddy went back on staff at Titleist. I think their updated Spin Milleds are going to be a hit.

Putters I have too many of and no talent to use, but the GSS thin face is so sweet I haven't been able to part with it yet.

So it's driver merry-go-round in 2007, although my current setup works well for me. We'll see. I have an FT-3 Tour forward weighted head (don't ask) at Joe Kwok's waiting for an Altus to install...tough to find one reasonably priced.

Old setup (remember, I just started golfing 19 months ago):

Top Flite Tour Oversize 3-PW

Wilson Pro Staff 56* SW

Dunlop putter ($10 @ Academy)

Adams Tight Lie 3W & 5W

Adams Faldo Driver (?)

New setup:

Bridgestone J33 Combos 3-PW

Ray Cook 52/56/60 wedges

Top Flite Tour Oversize 2 iorn

Bridgestone J33 3W

Taylormade V-Steel 5W (on the way)

Taylormade R540 XD Driver

Carbite Brass Balls mallet putter

The 52 usually stays at home and the 2i is used until the 5W arrives.

I may get a J33 Driver, 5W and wedges if I can find them on eBay.

  • 2 weeks later...

As of today, I finally have a complete bag of clubs setup EXACTLY the way I want (specs, down to the last details, etc.). It's been quite a journey the last 4.5 months when all these changes started...but finally it's all done! I can finally sleep well again... :)

Maybe I need to avoid the Trackman fitting........ :drinks:
