Very humbling thread. First time i've read every post on every page on almost any interent forum. Picking up the game last year, I fell in love and get all giddy when I hit the course, and oddly enough get even more excited when I hit a bad shot, because now I can figure out what I did wrong and perfect it in the next. The only channel on TV I watch is the golf channel now, and when I'm on the internet not a moment goes by where I don't hop on golfwrx. Needless to say, I'm thinking about golf all of the time, and had hopes of maybe one day making it on tour, I can hit it 290-300 (carry) relatively often, and am somewhat of a low handicapper for my age in the game.

However, all of your insight was a massive and helpful slap in the face! A good one, as it will just keep reassuring me to continue in my studies to have a successful job with certain pay, rather than chase one where money isn't guaranteed. Granted, I won't stop trying to figure out this crazy game, and I'll still dream, but now its in a much more fined tuned fashion. Basically what I'm trying to say, that my ADHD mind keeps beating around the bush of, is 'thank you' to everyone in this thread.
I may not ever play on tour, but at least I get to talk to the tour's best!

Im no great golfer but Im good enough to know how far away from being good enough is. Some guys watch a tourney on tv and think they could make it on tour. I imagine they are the same types who watch rocky and think anyone can win a world title.

Tournament golf is a whole different animal too compared to playing casual golf. The best players I know are on the + side of things and they are just middle of the pack or worse in regional amateur tournaments. Guys that can shoot in the mid 60s at home but shoot mid 70s in regional tournaments where 72 may be the cut line.
