SkyPro - really impressive

Recommended Posts

Groove mode is what skyPro has going for it at this point, but like others mentioned big downside that you have to groove based on an existing swing. I'm thinking of ditching the skyPro and waiting for the swingByte after I read more on it. The fact that it can determine the target accurately using video is nice and their app is better.

Another downside is they break easily.. I would avoid it honestly. Mine last about 20 swings then case cracked in half.

Well, they obviously have some quality control issues but if that is your only gripe then I would return it and get another one. I had the rubber underneath the white clamp come off so that's not good either. I worry how these things will hold up though.

It may have been used cause when I opened it there was actually dirt on the rubber part. GOing to take it back to golf galaxy tomorrow

Golf_Nerd: If you message me I can send you a replacement kit with more pads and a better adhesive. We do have a design change already in the works, but it's not ready yet.

DLiver: Swing Planes in groove mode would be cool. I'll put that on the feature list.

Cartydge: Sorry to hear about your hardware failure. On some of our early units the front screw was tightened too much. This cracked the plastic, and caused the unit to break after a few swings. We've since put measures in place to prevent this from happening. Without that problem, it should last a long time - we've done robotic testing and logged thousands and thousands of swings on these units without any failures. It shocked us when some broke so quickly. Please let me know if you can get a new one from golf galaxy, I can help with that if you can't.

Gord,
Thanks for staying on the boards and responding to people. That means a lot.

Guys be patient, and if you have faulty units, contact them and they'll help you.

When more features are added suggested by the community the app and hardware will get even better. If you think the grass is greener with Swingbyte, it's not. They started the same way. Many current features weren't in the initial release. They also had hardware issues initially(rubber band breaking, plus sensor moving). I have both and Skypro is the only one I continued to use after one week of receiving because of the accuracy. Swingbyte was okay but was not accurate at all which made it useless to me.. In one week, SP has helped me groove a much better swing, no joke. I know swingbyte is about to launch #2, but so will skypro surely. Competition is good, and us end users will benefit as they try to out do each other.

Maybe someone can clarify this for me. The app says that face angle at half-back and half-down should be/tends to be 30*-40* and parallel to your spine. Why shouldn't it be 0* or vertical and parallel to the target line at half back?
I think all would agree that if you were standing straight up and swinging the club on a horizontal plane, that the toe should point straight up(on the same angle as the spine).

So, when the golfer bends over and swings the club on an inclined plane, it only makes sense that the face angle would match their spine angle and/or be perpendicular to their swing path.
See that makes perfect sense to me but think about the Faldo preset drill; even though your spine is angled the face of the club is still with the target line at half back.

Well that's just a movement he has chosen to make with the club.

I dont see how that adds any credibility to the toe up position.

So after about 2 weeks with the Skypro I think it's a great tool for people working on all aspects of there swing. Could there be more functionality and organization? Of course...but it has really helped with my inside take away and over the top move. Also really showed how steep my downswing was.

As with all devices that are getting hurled at high velocities I generally try to remove it very carefully, not over-tighten, and lay the club down gently as to not have it drop on the device. It is holding up and I have logged over 1000 swings with it no problems. The rubber pad/gasket came off after 10 swings...simple fix was to apply some super glue and haven't had any issues since. I can see these pad's wearing out pretty easily if the device is over-tightened or if it's left on the club for an extended period of time.

This thing is really getting some bad reviews. I purchased one based off the technology it represents alone.
I used it yesterday for the first time and I was extremely impressed with the results. The app is great, the device seems ok, no problems.
More than anything I identified things in my swing that I never knew were there. They've caused problems for ever and I just never knew they were present. One 150 ball range session with this device and I was hitting dramatically more pure, straight, and better trajectory shots. Things were way more consistent.
If the devices holds up I honestly can't see this not dramatically improving my game.

I had the same experience ncosper! And I agree completely. I think you must have an understanding of the golf swing in general to make use of SkyPro. If you do, and have some flaws in your swing, SkyPro will help you find them and fix them. I was blown away at how it showed me "feel isn't real" ,and when I accepted the new feelings for a particular swing checkpoint fix, my swing improved dramatically. My contact is consistantly purer and the balls fly more consistant.

I returned my yesterday because I tried to cancel two weeks ago and they wouldn't let me so I already knew I was going to return.

However I used my buddies at the range and I used my wedges which are my best clubs. I used my 56 wedge and that's my 115 club.
I hit five balls with the device on. All my shots were within 7 yds of the pin. Decent shots.

The swing byte only gave me one alert otherwise it said swing was good, my impact position was leaning back.
I am curious how this can be when my divots were a few inches infront of the ball.

Then I purposely tried to hit a knock down shot with my hands being way infront. Again only one alert. My shaft at impact is leaning back.

Just curious why it would read like this? My buddy don't calibrate right?

Not to butt in but I'll tell you what I experienced. My take-away face angle (P2 face angle) was too far open, and I had no idea. I consciously thought I atleast had toe-up(o*) previously and never thought it was a problem. Wrong, Skypro showed me I needed to get a new feel for closing the face some more. Combine that with shaft angle at take-away (P2 shaft angle), showed me I was taking it back too inside by a few degrees. With SP Groove, I fixed that. With just those two items fixed (got a new feel) by grooving I was taking the club back MUCH MUCH better, which resulted in a better posiiton at the top, better loading at the top, and a much truer plane in my case. Therefore the DS just became "better". I also found I had a tendency to take the club back too far. I then grooved a shorter backswing, and immediately developed a feel for a shorter backswing.

I thought I had good shaft lean at impact. After measuring, it wasnt good enough. I grooved it, and within minutes developed a new "feel" to achieve the shaft lean I was targeting.

The thing is, it's like video taping yourself, except its much easier to hit shot after shot without having to review the video each time. The feedback "groove" gives you, allows you to just swing away, and develop the "feels" without having to review video, get setup again, and try and change what you are working on.

in the end it's just another tool like any other aid, but the feedback "groove" gives you is extremely powerful in my opinion.

I identified swinging way past parallel. People used to tell me I swung extremely hard and it never felt like it was past parallel. I also learned that shortening my swing to parallel did not reduce club head speed. In turn it dramatically increased ball striking. Using groove mode showed me and gave a great feel to the new position I need to take my backswing to. I actually can't see another good way to make such a dramatic correction in such a short time.
I've also learned my club head angle is too steep in my backswing along with a flat takeaway. All things you just can't feel. I haven't remedied the later few yet and may not since my impact angles are pretty good but those are nice to know and have especially to have a mimic-able swing that is good when the swing starts feeling off.

Interesting. The Facebook link at the top of the SkyPro web page takes you to some page called Pocket Pro that has almost no content.

Does this software show face angle at impact?
I read a review where the reviewer says this does not ... which imo is a big minus
It shows face angle and path at impact, but doesn't give you the measurement. You can only see these two things by looking closely in the 3D swing model.

Given how the Skypro is dependent on the phone hardware characteristics for calibration, I'm guessing that complicates Android support. Many popular Android phones have curved backs, so I don't know what you'd do to deal with that. I suspect not all Android phones have the accelerometer capabilities needed for calibration. So I'll bet that when Android support does come out, it will be limited to specific phones.

A frustration I have so far with the Skypro is that, with irons, it properly assesses that I am a little bit inside coming down. That's my swing, and that's ok. However, with driver, my flaw is to come outside-in and hit slices and fades. I had my son video me on a few swings where I am clearly outside the ball, but Skypro says I am 1-2 degrees inside. Then, I get the driver swing fixed and come from a little inside and Skypro gives me the same 1-2 degrees inside. IOW -- it's not helping me with the one thing I need most help with.

Not even. You can't see it at all really. And I really wanted to see that, with numbers.
