EPON AF 503 Irons

TRC723

Recommended Posts

I currently game the Epon 502 irons and am looking to get the new Epon 503 irons set to be released on 4/20/13. Any ideas where I can get such a set? I bought my 502s from a local dealer however I was extremely disappointed with their workmanship; I had to take my set to another reputable club builder who then replaced the shafts. Needless to say this was a costly experience and one I do not want to repeat. Any advice?

Judging by the picture these look like they have the "pocket" that the af 701 had which made a horrible sound.

They have a pocket cavity but imassure ounthese feel nothing like the 7 series.
More similar to 501s and 551s. Note this is a 5 series, you want no undercut
Btter consider their other models

Are the 502's along the line of Mizuno 825 Pro in terms of forgivness? I have never hit or seen Epons in person.

I know they're not for me but knowing you played yesterday.... very interested
in what you think of them.

first of all guys let me say that i have hit the 503s yesterday back to back with all 5 series irons.

this is not the prettiest irons epon has produced, i was dissapointed when i saw the original spy shots

but trust me it looks better in person. like i said everything epon does is for a reason, if they could have designed

it better they would have done so. this is a case of function over form.

without getting into technicals i find that the 503s in short is the direct linear descendant of the 501. the 502

was taken into a different direction with the experimentation in alpha gel and manufacturing techniques which

i consider very good improvements but those that got used to the 501s considered it muted or diminished feel.

the 503s are cross between the 501 and 702 to be honest. somewhere smack in the middle. all irons have the undercut

cavity as opposed to the 501 which were long irons undercut mid were solid. for those that mentioned click YES there

is a click but i tend to notice the click is a non factor given the target market of the clubs. if your used to playing solid

irons or blades these will feel different. the harder you struck the ball the less clicky it felt which was the opposite case

with the 702s. the 702s are more forgiving but that is expected.

think of the 503s as a more playeresque 702 with smaller more compact head, less offset and smaller heel to toe dimesnions but with the same long distance.. they are very very easy to hit more so than the 502 and 501. i like them a lot

Your pics look much better than other I have seen. Makes me more firmly realize that the ones that were put on the other site were done so with an ulterior motive.

I am highly anticipating their updated releases as the year goes on. Despite all the recent hub bub, Epon still makes as good a product as anyone in the world. I will have my eye on the 302 replacement...although I need to ho more irons like I need another hole in my head, but I digress.

Nice write up C.

And yes, they look waaaaaaay better than the pics I've seen........

I'd assume the 302 replacement isn't too far away. Maybe

i havent heard anything about a 303 but the 503 is out so only a matter of time.
thats the only thing keeping me from ordering another set of 302s in that special finish.

I agree with the above comments, those look way better then previous pictures I've seen of them. Very nice Spoon! Any way you might be able to take a family pic but from the sole size?

While the 503's are quite nice, those 551's still take the cake for me.

Super tuna i will do sole pics on monday..
The 551s are truly special.. So good that no need to improve on it for that particular platform.

Stay tuned.

  • 1 month later...

guys just to update. i have been gaming blades in my last two sets epon personals and crazy blades,

bec i have not been playing much i decided to give these a go with monaco S flex shafts. all i can say is

wow! i like these a lot better than the 502s, find these way more forgiving and longer. the only downside

is that their are undercuts in all irons, would have preferred these solid from 7-pw but i am not complaining.

these are very very hot off the face. they are like a better players 702 iron.

i may have to rethink my gaps game 5-pw and the pw is way longer and easier to hit than my previous 9 iron.

guess its the design and stronger gaps. am currently ordering a 4 iron and see how easy they are compared

to my yam 2012 tours.

If the 303 has an undercut cavity... i'll be ordering a complete copper chrome set of 302's immediately. ( don't need them, but eventually i'm going to have to replace my 301's...). :swoon:

(I've seen the 503's in person. Not ugly, but an undercut in every head is 700 series territory)

303s whenever they are released will NOT have an undercut cavity. i wager my entire set if they do:)
these are more compact than the 700 series, the size difference alone will keep the 700 series users
away.

nothing wrong with the cavities to be honest, not a deal breaker. the i20s have an undercut cavity
and they are as playereque as any other solid cb.

Thing is there's the RF-551's... cheaper, better looking 500 series with undercut cavity. The RF-551 is very sexy looking and visually has surprisingly little offset.

I'm just looking for an excuse to get a set of copper chrome 302's :slow_en:
