Classic Courses - Google Street View

Imagine if Google extended its street view to courses like Auguster National or St Andrews. I would love to have a virtual stroll down these, particularly during tournaments..

I was thinking about this as a business idea a month or two ago... Only that it could be done to all the courses so people would have a better idea of any new course they're going to go and play. Only here in Finland the market to make such a service worth while would be too small.

Just strap the camera system on top of a cart and hit the fairways, then get the greens and tee boxes with some handheld device.

That would be quite an enjoyable business enterprise. After an initial outlay for the camera and rigging system it would be rather easy to accomplish.

Bond is a wonderful education facility. I attended UQ in Brisbane but spent my time between semesters participating in additional "summer school" courses at Bond... Did you get to play any courses while on the coast? Hope you made it to Robina Woods and Lakelands?

Unfortunately I hadn't picked up golf yet when I was there - a shame really as there were plenty of courses nearby, the nearest almost visible from our back yard. It was a great city though, exactly what I was looking for and an epitome of the "beach city". I don't think I would've enjoyed Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane as much (I didn't visit Perth, Darwin or Adelaide to comment on them).

Download Google Earth on your computer. It's satellite images but they are awesome. There is a timeline option that goes back to show you previous images but the most recent images are the best quality.

Google earth is awesome you just type in an address and it goes there.

Use 2604 Wasington Rd. Augusta Georgia as the address

+1 on Google Earth. I used it to check course conditions in my area when I was considering joining some clubs. It was great to be able to go back a few years to see the consistency (or lack thereof) of conditions throughout the years. I wish they were a little more frequent but it's still awesome.

I just used Google Maps to see a satellite image of Augusta...it's amazing to see how bad the condition is. I'm not sure when it was taken...but it's definitely not the Augusta you see on TV in April.

Augusta is a winter course. A big party/outing is thrown in early May for all those who volunteered for the Masters tournament. It's a big barbeque and everyone gets to play the course. Shortly after that the course is essentially shut down for play until Fall. I heard all of this from a Masters volunteer in 2010.
