Where to get 'em

Anyone know where to get black putter shafts?

I've seen the Black Pearl ones in the Cameron Studio Design 6 Prototype and think they look pretty good.

What else is out there?

i believe that golfsmith sells a gloss black in hosel style putter shaft for 3.97. it comes 54", but you can always cut it down right? well thats a cheap alternative, i dont know the durabitity of the shaft though.

The Golfsmith shaft is a Aluminum .370 shaft it might work.. I use it in my logo putters. About a year ago ... I was bidding on a box of smoked.355 true temper shafts ,they are out there somewhere..

I have a SC Sonoma 2 Slant that I might change the shaft in. Does anyone know the diameter of the tip? It think it would look sweet with an orange grip and black shaft.

So are you guys using steel shafts or graphite shafts for putters? Is it possible to use a graphite? Same feel?

My dad has used graphite for 10 years. Now if I could only find out the tip size on my putter.

I believe most putters require a .370 tip.

I have seen graphite shafts in Scotty's from time to time, mostly in 009 heads.

It's a very rare Fujikura Black graphite putter shaft. If you can find one, it will run about $300. It has magnificent feel and looks great.

It is a Fujikura graphite putter shaft sent to Scotty and they put the graphics on them. I have one in my T.P. Mills putter. They got a few. Scotty got some for tour putters only. A Scotty pull sold on Ebay yesterday for 3 bills and some change. I've never seen one uncut and uninstalled either. But if someone could get their hands on one they could name their price.

The other site sells the Fujikura version of the Cameron shaft, the PT-110 for $125.

 

I love Speeders, but don't think I'd pay that much to look cool. The G Loomis might be a go though.

The Black Chrome True Temper tapered wedge shafts, on the other hand, might be even better. They are S400, which should give a nice solid weight (130g or so) and have a .355 tip. And are just $20.

Given Zman's expertise in these matters, could I assume that a Cameron or a Bettinardi plumber's neck would both have .355 hosels?

 

Words cannot express how cool a Bettinardi BB5 with a black shaft would be.

the black shafts should be done more often...i often wondered why there are no black iron shafts? or are there???

Beats me. I still don't know why most OTR putter heads come in normal grey steel rather than black. Especially those with sight lines. It makes lining up so much easier and eliminates reflections.

 

Look at the interest the TM SuperQuad driver is getting because it is All Black. It was meant to be a limited edition, but proved so popular they are releasing it in black retail.

 

Bad for those who paid $900, good for those who waited. Given TM tend to lead the pack, I suspect we'll see a few more all black clubs. Personally, I'd love a full set of black clubs. The only thing I dislike about my G5 is the blueness.

 

Of course, then you get Scotty Cameron making a black finish (Black Pearl) that is so reflective you can't even see the sight lines.

 

Go figure.

The Fujikura Putter shaft from Bombsquad isn't the same shaft as the Scotty Cameron ones, which sell for about 3 times as much, they have different graphics and of course say scotty cameron

Ryan: Now I know we’re coming up to the end of the hour here, but let me squeeze in just one more question and then we’ll wrap things up. Putter shaft technology in Japan you got, I believe the 110, and the 100, you’ve even got a TourSpec version. Now UST’s got the Frequency-Filtered one. Is there going to be opportunities that you guys are going to explore in the putter shaft market?

 

Fujikura: Yes we are, definitely. I think that’s another avenue that is possibly going to start growing dramatically. The putter shafts, you know the head weights you can actually create a little heavier heads, have a little bit more feel down at the bottom, or vice-versa. How you roll your balance point on the graphite shaft which is capable with graphite unlike steel. Steel you’re kinda fixed into one stock shaft. There’s so much more versatility with a graphite shaft for a putter.

 

Fujikura: We actually have some putter shafts available right now to special club makers in the charter dealer network that we have for retail now

 

Ryan: So that should be available at your local dealer, Fujikura charter dealer?

 

Fujikura: Absolutely, I believe it’s the PT110. We had it out briefly last year, it’s still an expensive material that we use for those and are still getting over the hump of a guy coming in and reshafting his putter for $200 as opposed to getting a brand-new putter for $200. So there are some limitations to the market we can reach for this but it’s a fantastic putter shaft and we’ve even had some guys toying with it last year, I believe at the Master’s if I’m not mistaken, John could probably elaborate on that a little more.

 

Fujikura: Yeah, it was actually Ernie Els and Justin Rose. Justin Rose actually played it for a few events, but there have been a couple PGA tour players that have used it.
