Olympic Club

I'm in the San Fran area and was wondering if Olympic Club would allow me to stop by and hit up the proshop for a few things? Anyone ever done this?

I'm sure someone would know for sure but when I played there I don't remember a gate that restricted entrance. Once your on the grounds I'm sure you could. If possible make your way to the halfway house and get a rectangle cheeseburger, those things were to die for!

There is a gate at the entrance to the club, and it's always closed. Can't hurt by driving by and seeing if it's open. Don't think they'd let anyone in to the pro shop but you never know right?

Played there 3 months ago as a guest and the place was very accessible. We drove right in and parked and was given a cart. I would give it a try.

Go on a slow day. Dress nice. Shouldn't be a problem.

Didn't go by. It being private I was unsure may try it in the future. Got a super cheap tee time at Pasatiempo so I went and walked it. Didn't play so hot though!

They will, you have to wear pants, though. I don't think they will allow you in the pro shop with jeans on.

I've heard the "O" club is quite affordable, like 10 or 12k

Blue collar MPCC by comparison is closer to 250k.

"O" club is no big deal. Sorry. Nice course though.

Not all great clubs are super expensive. There are clubs that will take anyone who can pay a 250k initiation. And then there are clubs that don't care about the initiation. They care about who you know.

I know Olympic is not Equity. They also have two memberships for the course. One is the Downtown Club which is very restrictive for course use and the full membership. I think last I heard it was still 100k but the monthly of around $1000 or more is what gets you.

I remember a funny story from a friend that played San Francisco Golf Club which is right across the from Lake Merced. Between shots he was looking over at Olympic and asked the caddie if indeed that was Olympic. The caddie replied yes, their members work for our members. Hilarious and probably very true.

Funny, I'm a member at Mira Vista in the east bay and someone told me this EXACT story the other week. Said they met someone who was a member at SFGC ad they said "their members work for our members". Thought it was funny, especially funny to hear same joke twice so quickly.

Interesting posts here, I played there about a month ago and you can go into the pro shop but most private courses don't take cash. I beileve goes the same for the hamburger dog which is freaking awesome! I would definately not call the Olympic Course a working mans course; the reason it is cheap is because there is a huge waiting list to even get considered and they just don't really raise the price because theres not really any need. Awesome course though even the par 3 course is sweet!

Given a choice between playing the two, SFGC would win for me. But I'll never have that choice so it doesn't matter

Why would you want logo items from a course you haven't played? The San Fran members are everyone's bosses joke is so old....I'm sure even they are sick of hearing it. All that being said, Cal Club may be the best course in San Fran.

My older brother just got in about a year ago and absolutely loves the place. I suppose it depends on your definition of "no big deal"...

And no, it isn't 10k...

And no I haven't made it out there yet... Dammit!

Talking smack I guess. I got those figures from a guy while on the grounds at the US Open. He claimed to be a member. Actually he had a member's pass iirc.

MPCC isn't exactly blue collar either. Just some more smack I've heard from old timers. It was the "new money" club way back when. It's a stone's throw from Cypress so it's all relative. I got the 250 figure from a friend who is a member. Rumors where that it was closer to 750 so I had to ask.

What do you guys suspect Condalisa Rice is paying at Cyress? Perhaps nothing at all.

Played MPCC back in 2011 and you are spot on- FAR from blue collar. While very friendly, just about as stuffy a club I've ever played. Any six figure number would not surprise me in the least...

To go back to the op. I think the proshop might be members only. Everything else on site is charged to the membership number.

How come no one seems to know how to use a phone anymore and would rather just speculate? Out of curiosity I called Olympic this morning, and was informed that you do need to be a member or a guest of a member to go to the pro shop for souveniers. The pro shop is set up for credit card purchases (I bought some stuff when there for the NCGA event last fall), but access is restricted to membership except for special events at the club.

And since he was playing, I was allowed to buy the famous burger dog and items from the pro shop. He did well on his round and even managed to almost eagle the famous par 4 5th hole 489yds. Drive was 300, 5 iron to green rolled past the pin and stopped 2 feet from it, tap in for birdie. So I bought him a shirt with the Olympic Club logo to remember the round.

Those are so good! I had to get two! Nice gift for your son, I picked up some things from there last time. Titleist glove with the logo on the top, and Pro v1s with the club logo.

I can confirm the access is easy just drove right in, but didn't give the pro shop a try but seemed to be accessable. Silverado up in Napa has the same burger dogs and YES they are amazing.....
