Anybody ever played Shelter Harbor GC in RI?

I was looking through the list Golf Digest did a few years ago for the best courses in New-England, and this course was No.3 in Rhode Island. I was just wondering if anybody is a member there or played the course. From the few pictures I saw, the course looks great. Par 71 at 7000+ yards. They even have a par-3 course.

A few of the caddies from the club I used to work at go up there for the summer. Never been but I hear its a great track.

I played there a couple of weeks ago in a UConn golf team benefit tournament.
This course is amazing !!!!
It rivals some of the best courses that I have played ......... Fairways are immaculate and the greens were fantastic !!!!

[/quote]2nded. Played it a couple weeks ago with the RIGA Burke tournament. Fantastic course and phenomenal greens, immaculate fairways. A good challenge and great fun no matter your skill level.

Edit: just realized I used almost the same adjectives. Whoops! It really is that good!

Here are a few pictures from the UConn outing .... Picture perfect day ...... 75 and sunny with no wind !!!
First two pics are the clubhouse which is beautiful inside !!
Next 3 are of hole number 18 450 dead uphill !!!
Last two pictures are with Geno Auriemma, head coach UConn women's BBall and UConn AD Warde Manuel.

Dave Tiedemann is the head pro there and does a great job. Played with him in the outing and boy does he BOMB IT !!!!

Nahh. 18 is a peach and reachable in 2 with a good drive. The pictures compress the width of it making it look more narrow than it actually is and the fescue/carry is only 150-175ish. (Also, the fairways are cut 50/50 up the middle, the darker left/lighter right is still the fairway.)

And about the greens... they're not postage stamped stuff that you typically find in many New England courses. Some of them are quite sizeable, and most of them have some kind of angle, tilt, or challenge to them (2/3 levels, etc...). The standout on this is hole number 5 (Short par 4 dogleg). It's a short hole that you want to be below the hole if the pin is anywhere in the middle/front. Someone with a big draw can probably drive the green.

I do like that the course is nothing but trees and wilderness. No houses anywhere on the holes. Nice and quiet (like LoI). I agree that Shelter Harbor should be #1 in RI, but it's Private, so getting out on it is a bit tougher when you're a pleib like me that's not a member anywhere.

A friend of a friend is a member, and I played it about 4 or 5 years ago.
