Machrihanish Golf Club - Kintyre

Get yourself round to Machrihanish for a game as its in absolutely magnificent condition at present. Course and greens are in tip top condition. Coupled with the best opening hole in golf its a trip worth doing.

 

They are also doing a £200 fourball offer teeing off after 1430.

Just wish they still operated the Kintyre Express boat, that used to go over to Campbeltown from Ayrshire, as I'm not a good flyer. The only other way is to either get a Ferry from Ardrossan, but the timings aren't too good for a 1 night stay. Failing that, its a 3 or 4 hour drive around the peninsula, which is a great drive, but a bit of a hike. As I said, its a shame they have stopped the Kintyre Express boat.

I agree mate, the only viable option now is the drive which I love, not got any issues driving round.

I used to love doing the Calmac Ferry option, Gourock to Dunoon then a drive round to Portavadie and get the boat over to Tarbert and drive the remaining 40 miles.

I'm not sure how long the Ardrossan Campbeltown ferry will last as the times are poor to say the least.

Just fill a car and drive round. Coffee stop at Tarbert in Cafe Ca'Dora. Great day out.

I think that's the way to go if we wanted to stay for a few nights in Machrihanish or Campbeltown, but I wouldn't fancy a 3 1/2 - 4 hour drive to play, then have another 4 hour drive back straight after playing a round, it'd make for a long day, and a pretty expensive round of golf with petrol at £6.50 a gallon. Lol. I think the Calmac ferry from Ardrossan to Campbeltown will only be for Summer sailings, then they will review it again at the end of the Summer, which will make things even more awkward. With the demise of the Kintyre Express boat service, its a pity that some bright spark with money at Mach. Dunes, next door, doesn't see a business opportunity. Maybe some of them will read GolfWrx!
