Yah, I was wondering that too. The coverage on NBC didn't show the whole thing so it's impossible to draw conclusions but...

a)the coverage never actually showed him moving the ballmark with his putter, since it only showed him from about waist up, however it DID appear he was going through the motions of moving it. It did show him picking a target in the background and lining his putter to it, then it shows it bending over and probably moving the coin to the other side of the putter but you still never see anything below his waist.

b)the coverage never showed him moving the ballmark back to its original place if it was even moved, but it could've been showing other things (his wife, for one) during which the same time he was moving the coin back to its original place. However, the coverage did show Baddeley walking up to his ballmark from about 15 ft away to finish out. Had he moved the ballmark back off camera, why would he then be 15ft from the ball when they suddenly cut back to Baddeley? It then shows him going through his normal routine of lining up line on ball to the hole, removing ballmark, and putting it in.

I think he forgot to move it back. Everything pointed to it anyway. But it surprises me that no one said anything, even Miller! You'd think someone would say something since it was a putt to win the tournament.

Miller probably was watching the actual green while this was happening.. not the TV coverage that we were seeing. The way they shot it, it looks like he may have forgotten to move his mark... but I bet if you saw it live everything was normal.

If he really did forget to move the mark I bet a bunch of people would yell something before his putt.. especially his caddie.

He moved it back straight after Quinney missed his putt, and before Quigley putted out. So when it was Badds' turn to putt it had already been replaced - which is why it looks like he forgot.

Most guys will do it this way, move it back as soon as they get a chance, so they don't have another few minutes to forget about it while someone else putts.

As I was watching I saw Badds lining up to move his mark out of Quinneys' line, but I got destracted (kids) and just saw him walk up to hit the putt. I just figured that he moved it back since nothing was said.

There is a picture on another site of him holding the trophy!!!!!

You would of thought of the 500.000 plus in attendance something would have been said.

Good to hear he did move it back. Didn't this happen in a tourney before where the guy's opponent reminded him about moving it back? I seem to remember reading something about this.

Anyways, Baddeley was so money and he didn't know it. I think he would've holed the putt from the end of Happy Gilmore if he'd had to. A great dislay with the flatstick.

the camera definitely did not show him moving his marker back to the original position. I am so glad to hear he did it after Quinney putted out. Because he was quick to putt out right after Quigley, I thought there was no way he had enough time to move it back. I am relieved because I really like the kid.

The most well known is Tiger during the 1996 US Am. He moved his mark so Steve Scott could putt and then placed his ball and was about to remove his mark when Scott reminded him about it. Had Scott not reminded him, it would have been loss of hole for sure and I think even loss of match.

I saw CHIII, at the Buick last year, forget to move the ball mark back. I really doubt he did it on purpose, but he did leave himself a put that was more straight up the hill than his original spot. I mean, a 12 foot putt, what is 3 inches this way or that? As long as someone doesn't forget on purpose, no harm no foul.

Something similar happened to Bobby Locke in The Open back in (I think) the 50s. Locke won by 3 shots, it was later realised that he had failed to return his marker after moving it on the last green. Decision was taken by the R&A to let the win stand, as even with the normal 2 stroke penalty he would still have won.

;) I didn't read any of the above posts, but I believe that IF he didn't move it back, (and he did after all) once the tournament has been declared "closed" (and the matter wouldn't have been caught before that) the victory would have stood.... correct?

Or am I approaching the Rules of Golf incorrectly? I think that once a competition is declared "closed" and in the books, it can't be re-opened to assess any penalties or disqualify anyone!

Didn't Duffy Waldorf get disqualified after a win like 5 years ago? Someone at home watching tv noticed a violation, and called the PGA officials a day or something after Waldorf won the tournament. Apparently they took the win away from him.
