Milwaukee to Chicago

Driving from Milwaukee to Chicago staying near O'hare in mid September and looking for a great place to play. Any Suggestions?

Thunderhawk, Pine Meadow, Shepherd's Crook are all reasonably convenient and get great reviews. I haven't played any of them yet, but theyre all on my list.

A friend played at Pine Meadows about a week ago and said the greens aren't in good shape. I've played Thunderhawk and Shepherd's Crook and recommend both. The west course at White Pines in Bensenville(next door to O'Hare) is another option.

I second the Thunderhawk on the way idea. Shepherd's Crook is about 10 mins North and it's also a great course. Stonewall is about 25 mins South and can also be done on the way to Ohare.

You could play Stonewall Orchard and then drive 10 mins South and play Steeple Chase in Mundelein. THat would give you two solid tracks to play on your way down.

Thunderhawk was in great shape sunday but there greens suck a** now. I was very very dissapointed for 85 bucks

What was up with the greens at Thunderhawk? Thinking about heading over there early next week.

Bumpy/slow. Most greens were still showing the punch holes from may. They were really soft too. I still love that course but 85 bucks your greens better be damn good.

Ha - when I saw the subject I instantly thought Thunderhawk as others have posted. Haven't played there in a while so I'm not sure what the greens are like right now.

I played there yesterday. Course is in phenomenal shape but it wasnt very memorable. Many holes felt similar, nothing interesting. #18 was the most memorable hole to me anyway. There are better options. Thunderhawk and Stonewall are both better courses IMO.

Glen club is fine - generic, good shape, its golf. But I would never pay full rate there again when there are MANY better courses in similar type of shape for less $$$. I just find glen club to be...unsatisfying at full rate. Go play thunderhawk for half and have a WAY better experience.

You can play very comparable courses in MN to the Glen Club. Have played it more than a few times and while in great condition, there are very few holes that standout.

Played Stonewall Orchard today for the first time. Wow, what a great and tough course. Course is in great shape, the greens were pretty quick. Front nine was really tough, I lost 5 balls on my way to a 48. Back nine had a lot more room off the tee as evidenced by my 39. Course is run really well with top notch facilities. I would highly recommend this place.

Nope, the next one up, the gold tees. Around 6500 yards. I think the tips are like 7100, way out of my range.
