Turtle Bay double play from Waikiki

Has anyone done the Turtle Bay double play (Fazio and Palmer courses - $35 replay round) in one day driving from Waikiki ? I have been to Oahu a number of times now and have played most of all of the other courses, but really want to get up to Turtle Bay to hit the palmer course. I'm not really crazy about the $185 morning fee, but the $110 12-2pm rate seems to be ok, but have always seen that double play option on their website, but am thinking I would have to leave Waikiki around 5:30am ish, and am thinking I wouldn't get back until around 6-7pm, and am scared of getting that icey cold stare upon return :) Just curious if anyone has ever done this before ...

I live on oahu and I have played turtle bay many times. The palmer course is very unique and nice, the front nine plays like a links course, and the back nine looks like your playing in georgia. I have never done the package you are talking about, but FYI it takes an hour to get from waikiki to turtle bay, so maybe expect to be out 7 or 8 hours.

Live on Oahu and having played both, would suggest playing Palmer course only and not getting icy stare. The Fazio course is nice enough, but would be better off to not get stuck in traffic after long day @ course, enjoy Palmer, have nice lunch there, then take spouse out for nice dinner after return.

Thanks for the advice guys, I'm looking forward to the Palmer course.

Not to hijack my own thread, but what do you guys think about these other Oahu courses: Makaha Valley, Waikele CC, Pearl CC, Hawaii Kai and Kapolei ? Is Kapolei that nice ? I.e. similar to Ewa Beach/Koolina or nicer ? Hawaii Kai looks like an overpriced track in rough shape, but is just somewhat close to Waikiki.

[/quote]Makaha is a decent tract, not spectacular, solid condition that gets a lot of play from residents of Leeward side- would be quite a drive from Waikiki, probably more than you would care to make, especially with any traffic.
Hawaii Kai would be close, but condition can be spotty @ times, also course is a bit short and very much smaller target oriented.
Pearl CC is solid, friendly staff, not as simple to score as first appears.
Kapolei is resort style course layout, more friendly off tee than some others, almost always in good condition, just don't plan on sweeping ocean vistas, really only one hole with good ocean view. I actually like this course better than Ko'olina.
Haven't played Waikele in months, so will defer to others on than one, hope info helps!
