Isn't the R grind of Cold Forged similar to M grind of SM5?

Can anyone post a photo of a cold forged vokey 58.04K? I've scoured the web everywhere and cannot find a photo of this particular model. Thanks

Great wedges. Love mine. Here's some pics of the 58 deg you were asking for. Let me know if you want a different angle.

Thank you! I think I'm gonna order one. I want a low bounce K. Doesn't look like U.S.Titleist is gonna release one anytime soon.

Looks very nice! Can you comment on the feel and playability of this wedge please?

I've played two rounds with it and I'm very pleased so far. It has a nice soft feel with more of a muted sound than a SM5 46.08. The JDM groves definitely have a lower spin rate, and I'm glad for that. I haven't hit shots on a monitor yet, but I'm guessing the spin is somewhere between the SM5 46 and the 714 CB PW. It's fitted with DG TI S400

I'm currently gaming a 52-08F, 56-14F and 60-10K. I also have the 58-04K to swap out the 56 & 60 if I want to add another club in the bag, but I haven't needed to do that yet. I also returned from my last trip to Tokyo with a dozen for several of my buds and we are all loving them. All came with Japan stock DGS200. Whether hitting a full wedge or chipping from off the green, they have a muted feel that I love and distance control is very consistent across the face. I would agree with norcal that they probably don't spin as much as other wedges I have played, but I have no problem making them do a one hop and stop even on firm greens. The wide K grind is like cheating out of a bunker (SM5 K grind is similar) - Seriously, the sand entry margin of error is ridiculous. I'm really loving these clubs as I have found it very easy to flight shots both high and low, and the distance control has been fantastic. These will be in my bag for a long time. I can't find anything negative to say about them.

Sorry to zombify this thread but I've been eyeing a forged vokey for a while. The older models were...well...a bit large for me. They seemed like oversized versions of US vokeys except that were also forged. How does the size on these compare?
[/quote]

They are same as current Vokey SM5

So they are actually smaller than the previous Japanese forged vokeys?

what the hell is cold forging, forging has been around for some time and last time I checked, it took some pretty hot metal to be able to stamp or hammer a shape. I think this is a creative way to say milled. Forged is just a buzz word for most golfers, especially in the asian markets. I bet they used 1025 carbon instead of the normal 8620 which would provide that feel enhancement, but you cannot cold forge something, unless you're hercules. and even then good luck bro. Nice looking wedges, I just wish they would call it what it is, milled

Good question...what exactly is Cold Forging? I asked my friend Google and got this as one answer

The Cold Forging Process

Despite the word "cold," cold forgingsuppliers-small.png actually occurs at or near room temperature. The most common metals in cold forging applications are usually standard or carbon alloy steels. One of the most common types of cold forging is a process called impression-die forging, where the metal is placed into a die that is attached to an anvil. The metal is then hit by a descending hammer and forced into the die. Depending on the product, the hammer may actually be dropped on the metal numerous times in a very rapid sequence.

Cold Forging Considerations

Manufacturers may choose cold forging over hot forging for a number of reasons—since cold forged parts require very little or no finishing work, that step of the fabrication process is often dispensable, which saves money. Cold forging is also less susceptible to contamination problems, and the final component features a better overall surface finish. Other benefits of cold forging include:

  • Easier to impart directional properties
  • Improved interchangeability
  • Improved reproducibility
  • Increased dimensional control
  • Handles high stress and high die loads
  • Produces net shape or near-net shape parts

Some possible disadvantages include:

  • Easier to impart directional properties
  • Improved interchangeability
  • Improved reproducibility
  • Increased dimensional control
  • Handles high stress and high die loads
  • Produces net shape or near-net shape parts
  • The metal surfaces must be clean and free of scale before forging occurs
  • The metal is less ductile
  • Residual stress may occur
  • Heavier and more powerful equipment is needed
  • Stronger tooling is required

Btw, you can get the Cold Forged wedges cheap now that they are discounting them as the new 2015 version is set to ship in March. Seeing them as low as 8000 yen new on Rakuten, or about $66 plus shipping from Japan.

Like the looks of the new one much better

Anyone still playing the 58-04K? Just picked one up on Rakuten. 27 holes in and it plays pretty well with a tendency to dig on 30-50 yard pitches (playing in very soggy conditions though so may not be an issue). Anyone else have the same issue? Seems great on full swings and bunker play. Any tips on how to use the K grind properly?
