Caddie and player as far as I'm concerned. Why should the caddies be excluded from this, given that a player can get penalized on his caddie's behalf?

Well in all my time playing and watching Golf its the first time I have seen a caddie get involved I think the player is the Boss and what he says goes always, I doubt most caddies are allowed an opinion by their "Man"

honestly this is where the conversation needs to be....where is rory's caddie to do his job of backing his own player off to avoid a possible violation. wonder if he even knew the rule?

I'm 100% certain Rory would have preferred this caddie to yell out a couple of seconds before he hit, even if he was setting up to the ball. If the caddie then calmly explained that he wanted to be sure no-one got penalised I don't know what the issue would be. Common sense.

Dave Renwick is a respected caddie, Rory would know he wasn't trying to put him off by shouting.

Well if he didnt know the rule he sure as hell should know it, He was a very good AM in his day here in ireland He beat a guy Called Darren Clarke in the semi final of the irish AM championship in 1989, so he has been around the block. Having marshalled at many tour events I have to assume the walkway in the rough was just a mown down area They usually mark the lines on the fairway, but it is a bit of a waste of time in the rough because it gets tramped down and by all accounts Rory took a drop and put it into deep stuff, Having seen the TV replys maybe it was not clear to JP that he didnt take complete relief

Well with the money some of these Guys make I would not mind being a slave to them anytime. Its there job to look out for thier man ( JP are you reading ) and their players job to take care of the rest

'Catastrophic hole for Phil Mickelson. The Open Champion bludgeons his tee shot way down the left into a bush but it is then when all hell breaks loose. Lefty attempts a right handed escape but double hits it and has to chip out again. He plays a good fifth (5th!) shot onto the edge of the green and two putts later it is a triple bogey and all of a sudden Mickelson is three shots off the lead. Ouch.'

A lot can happen in the last 3 at National, big potential for swings especially if the wind is in normal direction (into on 17 and 18).

Pars all round at 17 for Larrazabal, McIlroy and now Mickelson, whose birdie putt comes so close. There it is then, a shoot-out on the par five 18th. Advantage with the Spaniard. Here we go..

As Mickelson waits back on the 18th tee, McIlroy and Larrazabal both find the short stuff with their drives and proceed to go for the green in two. But it is the Spaniard who comes out best - as has so often been the case today. Pabs clips a delightful three wood in that bounces on the front of the green and rolls up to 20 feet below the hole. Magical - he'll have that for an eagle and all the marbles. McIlroy, meanwhile, flies the green and is in the thick stuff needing his own Houdini-esque escape (stole that one off Dave Clark).
