Taking My Dad on a Trip. Help please!

Recommended Posts

I'm planning a surprise trip for my dad's 70th birthday. We live in Eastern Maryland and he has always wanted to take a golf trip for a couple days but never has. I'd like to stay somewhere for 3 days and play at least twice. I'm thinking either Williamsburg,Va or somewhere in North Carolina. What are your suggestions for a couple of really memorable courses to play? Please help.

Take him to Horsebridge there in Salisbury! You'll remember that forever!
Seriously, Kingsmill in Williamsburg VA is a great option, and if you're looking for something a little more "highline" look at The Homestead in Hot Springs VA and the Greenbrier in West Virginia.

Hive Tour Titles: 0
Capitol Cup Singles Record: Undefeated.
Suck it, Ceejay.

Pinehurst would be a great trip with lots of memories for both of you. Not cheap but worth it. Stay at the Carolina, many dining options at the Resort and also in the Village. So much history at the clubhouse and great golf with 5 couses on the premises, #7 is mostly private and #6 and #8 are both strong courses and just a shuttle or short drive. Beautiful town, just nice to walk around the area with many other options to keep you busy. Best of Luck.

I'm imagining you want good golf, but great memories. If my dad were alive, and hopefully I'll take my kids, to PINEHURST. Play 3 rounds - #4, #7, and #2. #4 and 7 are good but #2 you'll remember for the rest of your life. Stay at the Carolina- in the big hotel. Eat each morning at the buffet, head out for a late morning round after hitting the range and putting green. Go back to Carolina and have a beer or iced tea not he patio, then shower, dinner, and back on the patio. Pinehurst will be more pricey, but I don't feel there's a price you can put on the memories you'll both have. I've been twice and I guarantee the Pinehurst Resort will not disappoint. You can do a buddy trip anywhere, but you take your dad to Pinehurst. It should be their motto.

I've done Williamsburg as well. If you end up there play the Golden Horseshoe, Colonial Heritage, and my favorite - Royal New Kent. Different experience all together- you'll be driving around, staying in a hotel, and eating at strip malls. Myrlte would eb the same deal.

If you're not in Pinehurst, you're settling, don't regret years later spending the extra dollars.

He's turning 70 but taking you to Ireland? That's a great dad! Haha. Seriously though. Pinehurst is on the list but he doesn't really care about playing the nicest courses. Just taking a trip down there and playing a few courses is all I can remember hearing him talk about since we both took up the game. I may be switching jobs soon and I'm hoping that it doesn't screw up my plans.

Maybe consider working your plans into the negotiations with your new employer? Kind of makes a nice story IMO, and if you pull it off, you may end up being pleased with yourself for the rest of your life. Some of us wish we still had the opportunity that you do, and believe me . . . when it's gone, it's gone.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
