Hot Bite vs. NXT Tour

Which is better ball?
Almost time to golf in the chilly midwest and I am looking for a mid-price ball that performs close to a Pro V1 (and other high end balls). Has anyone been able to play these balls or have any comments/comparisions of these 2 balls in particular (Hot Bite vs. NXT Tour)? Looking for all the regular attributes (length, low spin from driver, soft feel when putting, spin around green, etc...). I'd really like to hear how these two compare as far as green grabbing capibilities..Which one will grab more and maybe even spin back a little bit (or at least get one bounce and stop) with 8 iron through wedge shots???

Thanks,
O.

The HX bite.......... bit well on full swing shots for me but chips ran a bit longer than some of the premium balls. The NXT tour was a bit better for me around the green and I would have to assume shares some ProV technology. Another high spin ball in this category would be the E5+ which many people really like. Out of the three I would go with the E5+ but the NXT would be a close second.

the hex hot bite isn't worth the money. I use the NXT tour and is far more superior. The only downfall is I only get about 9 holes with it because the cover cuts up but for $30 I get alot of spin, this my "poor mans pro v1".

Haven't played in over 2 years.
Still dealing with bladder cancer.I'm in the hands of the VA now.

I think the golf mag ball test a month or two ago showed very similar distance, spin etc for these balls. I think they actually said the hot bite spins a little more off of a partial wedge shot - but they were within .05% one way or the other. I have played these two balls side by side for 9 holes, and the only difference I could tell was the HX held up much better in the wind, with a bit lower, penetrating trajectory for me. Last time I checked TGW, the HX was 25, but now it is listed as 'too low to advertise', so it may be cheaper now. If I could get these at 20 vs 30 for the nxts, I would buy them all day long.

Handicap .5

have any of you guys tried other lesser known 3 piece balls? ...like snake eyes tour ball , tommy armour premium, or TF gamer....wonder how they stack up against them big name balls....pro v too expensive..

Snake Eyes Tour ball = TRASH. I bought several dozen (without ever hitting them before) for around $.50 a ball and they probably aren't even worth that. Feel is bad and spin is not very good. The Gamer is a much better ball for the money.

I found the NXT Tour and Hot Bite to be almost the same in distance and short game. I did seem that the Bite is a little softer and I scuff it up quicker that the NXT. With both of them being sold for the same price, not sure which one a really like.

Almost time to golf in the chilly midwest and I am looking for a mid-price ball that performs close to a Pro V1 (and other high end balls).

IMHO, if that's what you are looking for, you should buy slightly older model tour balls that can be had at a heavily discounted price. as good as the NXT Tour, Burner TP, and Tour Fire are, they are still not a substitute for a real urethane covered 3-piece tour ball.

all of these balls will perform closer to a ProV1 than an NXT Tour, Burner TP, Tour Fire, HX-Hot Bite, etc.:

1) 2007 TaylorMade TP Red and TP Black, $24.99/dozen at TGW.com

2) Ben Hogan Tour Deep, $24.99/dozen at TGW.com. this ball can be considered as a sort of "parent" of the Callaway HX Tour/HX56 Tour. Callaway bought Ben Hogan, and utilized the 6 deeper dimples in the HX Tour/HX56 Tour originally found in the Tour Deep.

3) Top Flite Strata TL-Tour, $12.99/dozen at GolfGalaxy.com (you might find some at the store too, or you could have it shipped there). excellent ball imho, very consistent and predictable.

4) Nike TA2-SPN, $14.99/dozen at Golfsmith.com (likewise, you might find some at the store, or you can have it shipped there) it's the direct predecessor to the One Platinum.

5) Precept U-Tri-Tour, less than $24/dozen at your local Target or WalMart (direct predecessor to Bridgestone's B330/B330-S, playing characteristics place it right between the B330 and B330-S).

6) Precept U-Tri Extra Distance, $12.99/dozen if you buy 3 dozen at RockBottomGolf.com. feels as soft as a B330-S, has a higher trajectory than the B330-S, and less iron and greenside spin than the B330-S. the closest current tour ball in terms of playing characteristics is prolly Srixon's Z-URS.

7) 2007 Nike One Black or Platinum, $29.99/doz at TGW.com, GolfGalaxy, and a bunch of other places.

absolute best bang for the buck is the Top Flite Strata TL-Tour and Precept U-Tri Extra Distance at $12.99/dozen, followed closely behind by the 2007 TP Red and TP Black at $24.99/dozen (because they're still as good as anything out there currently, IMHO), then the Nike TA2-SPN at $14.99/dozen.

For me the Gamer and Bite are the same ball. Both have good spin and both have a softer cover than the NXT Tour. I think they also fly higher than the NXT Tour.

I'll second that.

Played the NXT Tour until the price went up. Talk to local Callaway Tech Rep and he mentioned that the Bite was equal to the NXT Tour and the Gamer was the same as the Bite, but cheaper. Playing the Gamer now. Plays a little too high for my liking, but for the price-who cares.
