Haven't played it but got a response from a golfworks rep saying it's near identical to the previous v2 - just different graphics.

I'm curious about this one: I cant find them anywhere online to buy because they say "Available through TSPX fitters only"

V2 - all specs same as original, same shaft with new paint/graphics.

V2 HL - claims to be reissue of the original V2 High Launch, 50g weight class specs identical to original, 60g weight class specs differ.

V2 Tour - looks to be a completely new addition. There was a model called the V2 Tour Flight released a few years after the initial V2, but were only available in a single weight and had different specs from this new V2 Tour model.

I recall someone a few weeks ago saying they heard this "Tour" version would be in the $199 range maybe. I've always thought the original V2 was pound for pound the best shaft, for the money(60-70$)...I really am interested in this new Tour version though.

I recently picked up a new v2 (7F5), tipped it .5", and paired with a Lamkin UTx to give it a run in my Ping G LST. My gamer shaft is an Atmos Black 7X which I love—but I wanted to give the new v2 a test to see if i could save some $$ switching it up. Since these shafts are both in the 70g range and X flex, I thought it would be a fun comparison. Here are my initial impressions of the v2 after a range session and 27 holes:

Appearance:

The coloring and graphics on the new v2 are AWESOME. I have the model with the neon yellow tip section and it looks amazing. It's been a real head turner on the course. I love the look of the Atmos shafts in the amoeba pattern with tour-spec white, but the v2 takes the category here. The coloring is so good it makes me just want to send driver and not worry about where it goes.

I am currently playing the yellow Titleist AVX, and the color of the ball and the color of the shaft are a near perfect match. It's a cool look on the tee that inspires confidence and makes you want to send one.

Feel:

The v2 is *slightly* more boardy than the Atmos. Very similar tip sections, but you can feel the v2 is less dynamic in the butt section. The feel of a shaft is subjective, and sometimes hard to articulate—but the best way I can describe the feel of the new v2 is "one piece". Compared to my Atmos Black, it almost feels dead. Not that a dead, one-piece feeling is bad—it's just not as dynamic as I was hoping for.

But overall, the feel between the Atmos Black and v2 is fairly similar. If I had to quantify it, I would say they feel 90% the same—with the Atmos feeling just a touch more lively.

Performance:

The v2 seems to play a little soft to flex as well. Like other UST shafts, the X flex seems to be closer to an S in other brands. With my Atmos Black, I hit small fades and rarely lose it left. The v2 sent me left a little more often than I would have liked. Maybe if I had tipped it more than .5", the flex would be closer to what I like.

Distance was noticeably shorter with the v2 compared to the Atmos. I was loosing somewhere around 15 yards on equally struck balls with the v2 compared to the Atmos Black. Because I haven't run this shaft on a launch monitor yet, I'm unsure of the numbers. But on the course and range, the flight looked pretty darn similar to the Atmos Black. I was a little surprised by the flight similarities between the two shafts, as the v2 is billed as a mid spin/launch shaft (vs. the low spin/launch of the Atmos Black).

Overall, the v2 performed very well for me and was very predictable. I care more about predictability with my tee game than distance, so the v2 fit right in with my game and how I like to play.

Overall thoughts:

In a straight up shoot-out between the two, I would take the Atmos—but it was a closer battle than I expected. However, keep in mind that the v2 is a $60 shaft, compared with the $300 retail tag on the Atmos Black. Considering that the Atmos could sell for almost 3 times the price of the v2, I'm strongly considering switching to the v2 and saving some money.

The V2 has a 4" pts vs 3" or less that most other OEMs use so you generally need to tip an inch more for standard bore or adjustable tip applications.

Were you testing the Tour or the yellow V2? I'm thinking of snagging one for a little driver project since they're so cheap.

While I haven't played the tour version, I just put a V2 5f4 in my g400 lst. I played the older version a few years back and I believe this version is better than the original. The new version has recoil technology in it. I love being able to really feel the shaft kick at impact. For $60 new I am not sure you can find a better shaft for the money. I actually hit more fairways in 4 rounds than I probably did the last half of last year!

I just tried mine out today in a 917D3. It’s the 7s4. So I guess 76g stiff. I used to play it in a 905r so I had Golfworks tip it like a bore through. I hit it very well. It feels similar to the old one. I just always likes the consistency and accuracy of this shaft for some reason. The color scheme is awesome.

Sounds like most of the reviews on here are for the non tour version. Curious if anyone has grabbed any numbers of a LM for either of these shafts.

I just had my V2 7FS Tour delivered. I will do the install this week and report back my experience from both the range and my home simulator.

Comparison will be based on:

TaylorMade M3 460 standard weight positions @ 9.5 degrees. My speed is about 105 and I tend to launch mid/high with not a lot roll out.

Fujikura Fuel 70 S / tipped 1/2" (76g / 3.1 deg)

this is my current player that I love. plays more like an X to me (i tried the X version and that was very board-y). i sacrifice a bit of clubhead feel and distance with this shaft, but it keeps me more under control. Launches mid by my standards and i've come back to this oldie time and time again. My misses are usually toe draws and this one keeps them in play most of the time. Sorry "twist face", but it's the shaft. LOL

Aldila RIP Alpha 90 X Tour Issue / no tipping (96g / 1.8 deg)

stiffest thing I have ever tried (that's what she said). I had no feeling with this shaft and every time I pulled it out of the bag I felt like I had to swing like DJ or Rory. It was really cool looking and I play a tamer version in my TaylorMade TP UDI 2 iron, but this driver spec was out of my league. launched extremely low and misses were pushed missles. "cool guy" experiment failed.

Fujikura Speeder Evolution Tour Spec 661 X / no tipping (68g / 3.3 deg)

Gave this one a shot because I'm partial to Fuji and you see them everywhere. Felt whippy to me and even though the specs are somewhat close to my Fuel, I really felt the difference. I wanted to like this shaft and keep it, but it has since found a new home. Launched too high for me and I tended to hook it on all misses.

Mitsubishi Tensei CK 60 S Blue / tipped OEM TM 1" (67g / 4.5 deg)

came in my M3 when I bought it as a demo. hit it about 20 times and got rid of it. whippy, "loose", ballooning. in fairness, I would have never picked this shaft for myself in S (it came with the clubhead), so it may have performed much better for a slower swinger. misses were all over the place.

I've tried a bunch of shafts this season (some not worth mentioning). LOL

I'm looking for something that feels and performs like my Fuel, but gives me a bit more roll out. V2 Tour opinion this week!

Any word on this yet?

p.s. I've got one(tour version) coming this week to put in a rogue 3 wood. Looking forward to seeing some #'s.
