Top golf coaches that are not PGA accredited

Jimmy Ballard.

Find a range that will let you teach.

Start handing out cards that say "Golf Pro" on them and give lessons.

There are a lot of schools that have Pros that are not affiliated.

There's also the USGTA.

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

Thanks for the helpful comment @iteachgolf . Where do you coach and how did you get into it? Shortly I will be starting to shadow the Pro that I take lessons from. He coaches a lot of mini tour players and elite amateurs as well as beginners. He is well respected in the golf industry here in the UK so hopefully I'll be able to learn a lot. I also follow a lot of the top coaches on social media and watch them on YouTube hoping to learn from them.

I would expect any competent instructor who is not a pga member at some point is either Certified in something or played on the pga tour or another high level golf.

I wouldn’t want to take lessons from someone who can’t break 90 and neither should anyone else. You would be surprised at the instructors who cant pass the pga playing test.

There’s several podcast I’ve done that talk a bit about how I got into teaching. On the Mark podcast is the most recent easy to find one.

That is a great way to learn and avoid a lot of pitfalls as a young instructor. Don't be afraid to contact others to ask if you could shadow them as well.

I agree I don’t think that someone would take lessons from someone that can’t break 90 but just because someone can’t pass a playing ability test doesn’t mean that they haven’t got great knowledge of the golf swing and be a great coach. Some people just can’t perform under pressure hence why they can’t pass the test.

Sorry. B.S. You can either play or you can’t.

I would never take a lesson from someone that can’t break 80 with ease.

When I was an apprentice and took my players test I was a +2. I passed on my first try.

There were 35 people taking the test that day. 8 passed. Some had taken the test over 10 times. One guy, 18 times. If you can’t lay golf at a reasonably high level you should not be teaching.

My personal take. Disagree if you like.

I guess if comes down to what you are wanting from them. I personally want an instructor who knows how to deal with pressure. I also have a tough time to break 80 so I really don't think it smart to spend money on a guy who can't either. I might as ask a buddy to give me advice and buy him a beer after the round.

If you just had a back surgery maybe your goals are different and that is a different instructor.
