Driver - M3 CK Pro White 70TX

3W - M3 KK XD 80TX

Question:

I destroy my 3W, one day I didn't have my driver because I was letting a buddy borrow it. I put my M3 3W at 11° (I had the KK XD installed at 13° not 15° because I have a higher ball flight) anyways, 3W set at 11 with the new shaft. I destroyed the ball, I was getting 300-315 out of my 3W (granted for gaps I don't play my 3W at 11°).

So my question is, what would I tip a KK XD 70TX driver shaft at if I purchased one to replace my CK Pro White? Or should I?

I love the stoutness of the white but I hit the XD so well and it loads and unloads like melted butter and it stands up to whatever I throw at it.

Or if there's a different shaft out there that I could try?

SS hovers around 115-120

Thanks!

The XD is a great shaft, I liked it much more than the Pro White and the Pro Orange. What is the head weight of the 3 wood? What is the shaft weight and length of the XD shaft in you're 3w? Do you know the tipping in the 3w? Because of the TINI fibers the tip is going to be stiff no matter what, but I had mine tipped at .5" in my driver and my SS is the same as yours. Other shafts to look at would be HZRDUS T1100 and Fujikura Pro Tour Spec.

The head weight is just a regular M3 3W straight from the factory. It plays 42.5" with the head installed. It weighs 85g.

I had the HZRDUS Black 6.5 and it was too boardy for me. Now it should be said that I played my friends Rogue Silver 130 tipped to 43.5 and I smoked the ball that day.

I've considered just getting a heavier shaft as I put a ton of torque on the club.

Tipping is largely a personal feel preference and minor performance tweaking kind of thing so its hard to say "oh yeah, just do this...". As a general guideline I would start with whatever you have with the 3 wood and do half an inch less and go from there, but also consider what you want to feel and what your ball flight preference might be. If you favor a fade/cut then more tipping can be preferable, vice versa for a draw. BUT, that is based on common trends that may be the exact opposite for you, so you won't know until you try.

I was fit for the XD. SS is about 108 and they recommended the TX tipped .5". So I'd probably say more for you. But i have a very quick tempo/transition.

I have a 60TX tipped an inch and it's an absolute beast, swinging at 120ish. I took it out of the bag and it just sits in the corner now. The 1 inch of tipping took almost all feeling of load out of it. Other options would be to add more weight to the head. I do also play an M3 3wood 80TX XD tipped a bunch and do enjoy that combo.

I have the Dual Core XT 70TX tipped an inch, which is very similar to the XD and it's a really great shaft. It still has some feel to it as well, which is great. Definitely more feel than my Pro Orange 70TX tipped 3/4", which I have in the Driver now. I haven't swung them side-by-side yet, so I'm just going off what I remember. For what it's worth, I'm around 115 - 118 on Trackman.

I've never hit the Pro White, but if you like heavier driver shafts the 70TX in the Kuro is a great option. Is your 3w shaft tipped at all? Mitsubishi doesn't recommend tipping in the driver, but what do they know... >:)

Played the KK DC TX 60 for the past three season and gave the white a try in the fall and I wasn't a fan of the stiffer over all feel even though the drivers were the same specs and both tipped a 1/2". Went back to KK DC and couldn't be happier. Agree with other here about the way the KK loads over the White is a much more pleasant feel IMHO. SS is ~110-115.

  • 10 months later...

find the XD exponentially anti left , launch and feel are great , something about the PRO W tx70 keeps me wanting put it back in the bag , I tend to like a bit harsher feeling shafts.
