From a lie angle stance, they both seem pretty good. From a swing stance, which I realize you did not ask about, it looks like you're coming into impact with zero to negative shaft lean as all your impact marks are on the back end of the club sole but the strike point and streaking on the tape show your path looks good. I would like to see some more forward shaft lean which would move that impact position towards the face, and should improve your impact. But again the lie angle seems good.

Impact from leading edge via mid to Trailing edge is depending on Face angle vs path

Closed face angle = Trailing edge impactSquare face angle = Center of the sole impactOpen face angle = Leading edge impactThis is one of tons of reasons for why sole impact marks for the most is misjudged, the lie board will fool the user in 8 out of 9 cases, so we should not use that test method at all, but use the ball marker test who is way simpler and easier to judge.

Only the sole mark in the center of this 9 would have been judged correct, the other would have fooled the lie board user to adjust lie angles that was good.

A lie board test like you just did, will NEVER tell you the truth about lie angles, its a useless test because its close to impossible to judge sole marks correct, its a full 27 "letter alphabet" of marks that moves around, all depending on factors we DONT have control over under DIY conditions, so forget it all and use a ball marker test for that judgement.

They honestly look very similar at least to where you are contacting the ground with them. The club itself probably won't change how you deliver the club that much if the two clubs are similar in club length, weight, etc as far as the lean goes. Unless you actually see a noticeable difference in ball flight between the two, it's going to be a crap shoot.

Do you hit a fair number of fat or thin shots? That would be a good indication of the shaft lean issue. If not, I may be off base.

I would have to see your ball flight with them or least get some numbers to say what is "better". Have you played both outdoors on grass? I personally believe that if you are looking at similar style clubs, then you can usually play either. Guessing you hit them pretty similar hence the need for this forum thread. If so, feel, looks, and price can tip the scale one way or the other.

Can't go wrong with Pings!! I agree with all of the above comments. To my surprise, Ping is the only OEM to my knowledge that still uses a lie board?! There are other tools/methods out there that do a better job! It's all about the desired ball flight and numbers to get the right fit. Hoping we can get back out there to golf?!

Hey everyone, I have a set of 1970 plus 1's with the ribbon under logo left handed set... The are my first set I got when I was 6 so they hold a sentimental value because my grandpa gave them to me. I'd like to get them restored asap so I can play around with my grandfather soon after this shutdown goes by. Does anybody have any advice on getting rust off the club head, hosel diameter, and shaft recommendations. I am playing Mizuno forged 919 irons right now with KBS tour 90 stiff shaft. Any advice or help would be greatly greatly appreciated and also if anybody has a left-handed 2 Iron that would be awesome because I need that to complete the set. Thank you everyone
