Nike VR Tour Driver

Changing length
I ordered the Nike VR Tour driver in 9.5 with the Project x 6.0 shaft. My question is can I have a reputable shop cut it down to 44.5 and not experience any negative problems , such as added stiffness, club does not play the same. My question is can these be butt trimmed with no problems or would something like this need to be done with a new shaft? I just feel the club is a little to long and rather not choke down everytime if I do not have to. Thanks

Most shafts are trimmed to length on the butt end. There will be little change in the shaft stiffness/flex however you'll drop the swing weight a bit, that may or may not be a good thing. Before messing with the head weight you might want to hit the club at the shortened length to see how it plays, then add back some head weight if needed.

Thanks , I was searching and reading some older posts and seen the debate about SW and feel etc. I do understand what you are talking aobut and see that if I just cut it down 1 inch will lose approx 6 SW points and seen the driver is in the D4 range right now. I know the only way to bring the SW back up without taking out the shaft would be to add tungsten down the shaft since I would not want tape added to the bottom of the club so do you think that adding the tungsten would be a bad thing? Thanks for any and all help. I do search but sometimes some of the posts are misleading with the back and forth that SW is subjective. Thanks

A good shop can add hotmelt to the head to bring the SW back up.

Honestly, not many shops hotmelt heads. Yes sure, there are quite a few guys that do and being WRX'ers we all expect that sort of option, but when you look at the big picture the vast majority of shops don't do that. Most any can always add lead tape or something of that nature though.

So if I choke down on the club say 1.25 inches will that give me the same result if I was to cut 1.25 inches off of the butt end of the driver and also lower the sw feeling as if I just hacked off 1.25 inches and now it feels like c8-9? I am asking because I intend to just choke up and if I can hit it that way and it would have the same effect then I would pursue cutting off 1.25. I know I should of ordered the driver shorter in the first place but I have something that is called ( I dont ever think because I hate waiting syndrome) so now I am stuck figuring out a way to cut 1.25 inches off. Thanks

If you decide to cut it down and the lighter swing weight is bothering you, you could always just switch to a lighter grip. The new WinnLite grip would be great for this. I think it's 25grams in weight. On average most grips are around 50grams. For every 5 grams of weight you lose on the grip end you'll gain 1 SW point. I use a GP dual durometer lite grip on my driver. It's 39grams. My driver is 44" and the SW is D4, although I also have a 95gram shaft as well.

it will play about the same if you choke down or cut down. A little different but similar.

The winn lite grip is a great option if you want to raise the swingweight of the club. Had a customer a couple days ago who likes his driver at 45" and D2 swingweight, he put a new shaft in a head and it was at C8, we threw the Winn Lite grip on there and it popped up to D2.5, perfect.
