Have a friend who’s wife was at an estate sale and bought a set of great shape AP2’s for $20! Yes, $20! They had regular flex shafts in them, and I pulled them and put KBS Tour stiff shafts in them for him. I still try to finagle them away from him once in a while, but to no avail!

Found a Pixl 1.8 series anser style putter for $4 at the goodwill the other day.

I know the Pixl insert has found it's way into a few other manufacturers putters, namely Ping and Edel, but I was totally unaware that there was a Pixl Golf company making their own putters with the same insert.

I gotta say I like the look and feel of this putter. It's a belly model, so my plan is to try my first ever counterbalance conversion by chopping it down to 38" and sticking a counterbalanced Winn grip on it.

Looks like a long/broomstick putter, not belly. I'd disassemble and weigh your head and shaft... you may not need as much weight in the grip to reach the desired balance as you think. You may also need to adjust the lie angle as well.

I thought so too because of the split grip but I did some digging and the 1.8X was the belly model and it measures out to 43", same as factory spec.

At the very least, I'd still get the head weight from the MFG, cut it down, measure the total weight, and figure out your grip and/if/or counterweight from there. Or, at the very least, install the grip with air so you can remove and add weight or subtract length if necessary. I've blindly done a CB conversion before without doing so and ended up wishing I'd taken the extra steps along the way.

Good advice! Is there a general rule for counter weight above the hands to headweight or is it just a feel thing? Or is total weight more of a concern?

There are different schools of thought (total weight, balance point, shaft/grip/cb vs head, etc) but for an experiment like this I'd probably go based on feel and/or install a grip that allows post-install CB weight adjustment (Super Stroke CounterCore, for example)... or maybe try out some off-the-rack CB putters at the store to see what feels good and try to dissect-and-recreate the balance properties of those as much as possible.

Not really golf related, but got a projector with remote in good working condition for $15. Probably will use it in the garage when I'm practicing and outdoors at night when the kids are in the pool. For the price, if it gets hit by a splash of water or a ricocheting golf ball, no big loss.

Now I have to resist the urge to start a simulator setup. This could end up being the most expensive $15 item I've ever bought, lol.
