Vokey SM5 wedges

Recommended Posts

From what I have read, the new vokey wedges should be coming out in the late fall of 2013. I assume they will continue with the previous name trend and be called the SM5.

Does anyone know anything for sure about the upcoming wedges? Do you think they will be much different from the current SM4 lines in terms of performance?

Obviously, they will have a slightly different paint scheme and maybe some new finished, but I am interested in whether or not anyone knows any major functional changes?

Perhaps a new groove configuration?

I am strongly considering pulling the trigger on some new wedges, but I'm trying to decide if I should wait until the new ones come out. Also wondering how a new Vokey wedge will perform against the new Callaway Mack Daddy 2 wedges that are due (in theory) to come out later this summer.

Thoughts?

How does anyone comment on a wedge (SM5?) that may or may not come out this late fall against a wedge that is out on tour, in somewhat limited quantities (but not out at retail) and make a comparison?

That may be why 700+ have read this but there are no info or ideas!

Based on your title, they were hoping you were posting the info

I apologize if that came off the wrong way Greg. I was simply wondering if anyone had any inside info on new Vokey wedges since we would expect new ones to probably be coming out around November based on previous product cycles.

I thought my post was just like the others where people are constantly asking if anyone has any insider info on any number of other new clubs that we are expecting to be released in the next few months, i.e. Ping S55, I25, Titleist 714, etc. Those threads are based on the same questions that I posed here and people have posted endless speculation, ideas and opinions about what they hope will be released, of even better, what they have heard from inside sources will be released. Since Vokey wedges are so popular, I thought it would be fun get a thread going about what everyone was thinking in terms of potential new releases. That is the only reason why i was surprised that nobody has chimed in.

I agree the title is probably misleading, which is my fault.

+1 I opened this thread thinking you may have some inside info. I have to admit I am in the same boat, I need (want) new wedges. Vokey tvd, or JDM is what will probably be in my bag. But I'd love some info on the new vokey wedges also.

Titleist vokey sm4s came out in the somewhere in the middle of 2012, They will be out in another year because there is a 2 year cycle. That is when I buy my wedges too, every two years. Also, when the new vokey wedges come out I am sure they will be improved.

I'm sorry but you are incorrect about when the SM4's were released.

They came out in November of 2011, not mid-2012. Here is a press release.

Completely non insider opinion but I don't expect them to release a "SM5" this year. I think the new K grind and expansion of the wedge works would be it for 2013.

Also just an opinion but I would expect at some point for a combo 200 series spin milled 4 groove wedge

Now I hope I am wrong and they some out with an adjustable 60-64/ 6-12 wedge with Spin Milling everywhere, even on the back of the club and the shaft.

Titleist is VERY good at hiding their product until it is released on tour. Maybe later summer or early fall we will see some play on tour and find out more then, otherwise I think this is just speculation and honestly not worth our time.

The ones you buy tomorrow will be adequately worn out by the time the new ones are on the shelf.

I wish we could have a rule where titles need to be a bit more specific. For example:

"Vokey SM5-A Comprehensive Review by a 7 HCP" would be a lot more interesting to people than "Vokey SM5...Does Anyone Know Anything About Them...Thoughts?", but the current title gives no indication which it is, so people click it hoping for the first and then don't really care to provide an opinion on something they literally have no information whatsoever on when they see it is the second. Would be better with a more clear title.

Hopefully they release a 70 degree version so I can swing full from 75 yards. Bought a 64 for that shot but didn't work out like planned.

Again, I simply started the thread with the title of "Vokey SM5" because that is the way countless other speculation threads have been titled such as "Ping S55". That thread was started back when we had no clue what the heck the new S line would look like. Just like this SM5 thread. In fact, we still don't know for sure about the S55 other than some potential US Patent drawings that people are speculating as to whether they represent the S line, i line or anser line. Threads such as that morph into over 10 pages of WRX'ers doing what we all come to this site to do....discussing what we hope the product will be, what it might turn out to be and what we have heard it will actually will be. I do not see how my title here is any different.

I'm sorry if it really bothered you. Honestly if it did, that is kind of pathetic. The mods are more than welcome to change the title, erase the thread, or anything else if that is what everyone wants.

The SM5 better be a scrumdiddlyumcious fantabulous piece of pure amazing if it is going to be "better" than the tech with the Rotex and MD2's. I am going to wait until the end of the year to make my decision but I am expecting BIG things from Mr. Bob Vokey.
