Wedge Shafts - DG S400, X100, Spinner, or KBS Tour Hi-Rev

Hey all,

First post here. I'm 33 years old and have been playing this wonderful golf game for 5 years now. I started at a 22 Handicap and managed to get it down to an 8 currently. :yahoo: It took some work and a definite investment over the years in good equipment. I'm looking to dial in my short game from 100 yards and under even more to get me under at least a 5 Handicap this year. I have a set of Cleveland CG14 wedges that I love, however, I believe they have 2 or 3 different types of shafts since I bought them all separately, and one I bought used since I could find a single dot 60* at that time brand new. My irons are Mizuno's MP-63's with KBS Tour shafts. They came stock with DG XP S300's, but I had a low penetrating ball flight with them and had trouble sticking the green. The KBS Tour shafts gave me the higher trajectory I was looking for while keeping my distances accurate. I'm now looking to upgrade the shafts in my wedges. I like the trajectory I have now, but I need more spin. I'm seeing mixed reviews for SG400/X100, KBS Hi Rev, and Spinners, as well as a few others out there too. I have a 52* (Full Swing 110 Yards), 56* (Full Swing 100 Yards), and a 60* (Full Swing 85 Yards). I use the 60* for generally everything under 100 yards due to the single dot and being able to pick the ball off of tight lies.

Questions:

1) I wanna throw darts and have less release with more back spin while keeping higher trajectory, which shaft would help?

2) Since I went to the KBS tours in my irons, should I stick with KBS in my wedges?

3) Will a certain wedge shaft affect my bunker shots or how I swing during a bunker shot?

Any help is appreciated!

I just want to lose enough weight so
my belly doesn't jiggle when I brush
my teeth....

I only carry two wedges, 54 & 58. I have an x100 in my 54 because I hit full shots with it and prefer the lower flight. My 58 has whatever the stock shaft is because it is pretty much only used green side. The shaft is not very important to me.

I use the KBS HiRev in my wedges and have been pleased. Higher trajectory and stops on a dime. I actually probably spin that less than say a S300 (which I can spin back off the green every time for some reason).

I hated the Spinner. Spun great, but was not accurate at all for me. Distances or direction.

I can't really see how the shaft would affect the green-side bunker shots that much, at least with my game. I don't even swing hard enough out of a trap to load a shaft I don't think.

To each his own I guess. We all swing different, but I've been pleased with the HiRev shafts.

Nothing is safe in my bag!

Increaseing spin has a great deal to do with how the club head impacts the back of the ball, swing speed and shaft stiffness. My 53 carries 105yds, 59 carries 90ish, but its seldom hit 90 due to back spin. I do not need help getting the ball up, so when I tested a few spinner shafts, I didn't like the high trajectory, plus, for me, no good in the wind. My 53 has the same 6.0 shaft as my irons, but 59 has s200; both are the same length as PW, which contrubtes to the high swing weight that I prefer. Anyway, shaft choice depends on how the club is used. Even when I played X100 and Rifle 6.5, LW never matched. Wedge shafts are not of major conern for effective bunker shots... fyi; 98% of my bunker shots I use 59*.

If you really like the KBS tour shafts I would go with the KBS hi-rev in at least your 60 degree. If you hit more full shots with the 52 and 56 you could just go with the same KBS tour shaft in those. Or KBS tour in the 52 and KBS hi-rev in the 56 and 60. I have the hi-rev in my 58 degree wedge and really like it. Feels great on full shots and pitches.

Need to decide if you want to add spin or not add spin.

Add- KBS hi-rev, DG spinner, or 8-iron shaft

No add - DG S200, S300, S400, X100, KBS wedge

As far as which specific shaft, it's really just all about feel and weight. If you like KBS and it sounds like you want more spin, then KBS hi-rev seems like the first one to try.

If it doesn't work for you ....let me know. I need another one!! They are, I think, the best feeling wedge shaft out there....bar none.
