I know its apples and oranges, but a lot of Hogan Production clubs are available through ebay, and are more prevalent than the gray hairs I now sport. I own two sets, both Hogan Edges. Might look for some original apex or apex II. Still not really vintage and were produced for the masses. My earlier sets were Macgregor tourneys and my first set was Bobby Jones swing weight about E1 I would guess. (They were heavy with leather grips, and probably made by Spaulding).

The hogan sticks on ebay are damn good clubs. A real shame Callaway let that brand die out.
Depends on "which". I could not give mine away. They had some wear, but not all that excessive. No takers. There are dozens offered right now, granted the Edge's are not the same as the original red line Apex, Cameo's, or real blades, but plenty there for less than $70 a set. I have a set of Edge irons with steel shaft, and a set of Edge irons with Hogan High Performance Graphite. The graphite feel better, but they also have Avon Chamois grips.

EJ know of any rich people? Would be awesome to loft and lie and swingweight measure these babies.

I was just looking at the pics again, and you know what's interesting about them--they don't look all that flat. Just noticed it. They're certainly nowhere near as flat as the specs Jody Vasquez gives in his book. They actually look pretty close to standard to me, FWIW. Thoughts?

Didn't they play shorter than standard though? That would effectively make them flatter.

ya EJ if he had a coat hanger in there I'd imagine they were crazy heavy!

Was a shoe lace from reports , and NO they are not heavy
What about the empirical evidence from those few pros that went to colonial and swung his gear and reported heavy and stiff?
I spent a fair amount of time at Colonial in the early eighties, and in the Hogan room, there was a set of his clubs. I don't think the powers that be at Colonial let those clubs be taken out of the building. Maybe so, but I'd like some real info.

Didn't O'Meara swing them when Hogan was present on the range? I seem to recall that story where he couldn't get the ball off the ground and felt embarrassed and hoped Hogan wasn't watching...

All I have seen so far regarding the real clubs is a lot of speculation. I have heard flat and stiff and heavy to not so flat and not so heavy. Who knows the secret?
My gut tells me they were somewhere in between what everyone says. Fallacy of extremes can be seen here in people's perception. Some are so dead set on flat stiff and heavy they ruin fine clubs by putting lead powder down the shafts and redrilling woods!
Not everyone is best served playing 6 flat from Macgregor stock rebar weighted down with lead tape in fact that could lead to a lot of injury.
Screw what Hogan played-play what is best for you as an individual.

How is it with all the technology his clubs are not weighted and spec'ed out by now????

In Haney's book, Tiger said Hogan hit the balls very low and would not hold a modern green, maybe heavy clubs and not swing weight is correct.
Do you think maybe he could just get higher launching shafts and a spinny ball and be ok?

Tembolo

I think He would be lost in modern day golf, unless Haney was around to show him the plane.

I hate to dispute Tiger, but according to Dan Jenkins (played with Hogan, covered him in his prime), Hogan hit a medium height shot than moved slightly left to right. There is also no reason O'Meara couldn't get a ball in the air with Hogan's clubs. They were, by loft, at least a club weak to post Eye 2 irons. I have absolutely no doubt that Hogan could adapt quite nicely to modern equipment.

Ya agree there. He really liked very, very stiff shafts...so i'm sure they could give him kbs something 8.0 or whatever and he'd be fine.

exactly! The Ben Hogan Golf Club Company would be alive and well, and would make custom modern clubs designed and tested by BH himself.
